Gamethread -2: Preseason vs. Chicago
Chicago Bulls at Minnesota Timberwolves, Oct 22, 2008 7:00 PM CDT
Tonight is the first game at the Target Center this year, so Love and Miller are getting ready to introduce themselves to the home crowd. Wittman's still got a lot of thinking to do about his rotation, let alone the cuts that must be made next week (more on that shortly).
We've already played Chicago this preseason, beating them 96-86 last Tuesday in Chicago. While a balanced offense and significant advantages in rebounds and turnovers won the game for Minnesota, Drew Gooden went off on our post defense for 20 points in 26 minutes.
Did you know Derrick Rose scored 30 points last night against Dallas? Learning curve be damned.
Projected Starting Lineups
Minnesota: Randy Foye / Mike Miller / Ryan Gomes / Mark Madsen / Al Jefferson
Chicago: Kirk Hinrich / Larry Hughes / Luol Deng / Tyrus Thomas / Drew Gooden
Game Time: 7:00 pm CST
Broadcast: FSN North

Some things to ponder...
I saw a lot of the bulls game last night when Rose went off for 30. Several ankles were broken when young Mr. Rose went to the hoop. That is how he got the vast majority of his points, on drives. His outside shot is still very inconsistent, so I’m thinking teams will adjust to that and opposing PG’s will play off of him and make him prove it from the outside. But man he looked good last night. So quick and powerful and what a great finisher. Hopefully Witt realizes all of this and has his PG’s play off him somewhat. On another note, the bulls are the kind of team where we could actually start a smaller lineup. Love doesn’t match up well with either Thomas or Gooden, they are both just too athletic at this point. I would start:
Minnesota: Randy Foye / Rashad McCants / Mike Miller / Ryan Gomes / Al Jefferson
Chicago: Kirk Hinrich / Larry Hughes / Luol Deng / Tyrus Thomas / Drew Gooden
Hughes isn’t that much bigger than McCants, and Deng is not overly athletic so Miller could do a serviceable job on him. Gomes is the quickest of our PF hybrids, so he would be the best option to butt heads with Thomas. This lineup would really put tons of offensive pressure on the opposing team. Then you bring in Brewer to lock down Ben Gordon when he comes in the game. And Love should be able to guard Aaron Gray when he comes in. That would also force Gray to play defense on the perimeter, which could lead to some open jumpers for Love. The Rhino should be able to match up with Noah as well. This type of matchup actually does play right into our hands. We’ll see when the regular season comes around…
I wonder
if the floor will be different along with the new logo, etc.
