Baller in the White House

Obama-and-unc-basketball_medium

Cool stories about his election day pick-up game can be found here and here

You can read about his scrimmage with UNC here.  Will basketball become the new diplomatic game in the White House?  Will he install a court?  I know it's a small, small part of what's happening, but this is good for the game.  The most recognizable guy on the planet loves basketball.

Maybe he can replace the bowling alley in the White House with a court:

S-N-P

Since the first crazy trade has been logged by the Nuggets/Pistons I think we are about due a crazy 17 way S-N-P trade idea. Sorry, that’s how I feel.

ps I believe Michelle Bachmann mentioned during her victory speech that S-N-P’s trade ideas are Anti-American. Don’t let her get away with that.

You know...

…I was sitting on one: 3 way with the Lakers and Blazers. I think it’s a little early for above-the-fold ideas, but here it goes in the comments:

To the Wolves:

Raef Lafrenz
Travis Outlaw

To the Blazers:

Lamar Odom

To the Lakers:

Mike Miller
Brian Cardinal

Portland needs Odom like a hole in the head, but I think the Wolves should be chomping at the bit to be the 3rd team in a 3 way trade involving Portland and some of their young talent that has to be let overboard. I give this trade about a -43.5% chance of happening. Here’s one that I really like but…well, it’s complicated:

To the Wolves:
- Raymond Felton
- Travis Outlaw

To the Bobcats:
- Channing Frye
- Wolves Utah pick

To the Grizz:
- Martell Webster

To the Blazers:
- Mike Conley
- Mike Miller

The Grizz don’t exactly need Webster, but hey…a guy can put together some anti-American trades, can’t he?

It is pretty early in the year to legitimately think about these things but I can never help myself from mightily enjoying them.

Both those trades involve a slew of players that are badly in need of being involved in trades, but those particular incarnations don’t make tons of sense except as a “lets shake things up” which is more of a January thing.

I can't figure...

…out a way to get Conley to Portland and Felton to Minny. I agree that it’s too early and i am not advocating a trade…just for fun. I do, however, think that Miller will be moved this season or before the draft.

What do you like...

…about Felton. I’ve had him a couple of times in Fantasy Basketball so I’ve followed him a little. Scores threes, gets a consistant but now awe inspiring number of assists, and has a gawd awful shooting percentage.

That said PG worst position to analyze via a stat sheet and I loved his game at NC.

by Pants_ on Nov 5, 2008 3:57 PM CST up reply actions

Yeah I have pretty much the same take as you.

Loved his game at UNC, see that he’s good but not great as a pro, thought he’d be better.

by plinytheelder on Nov 5, 2008 4:11 PM CST up reply actions

A couple of things...

1- He’s still younger than Foye
2- He has shown improvement in every year.
3- He operates at at least an NBA average level on a comparably bad squad
4- He will lead this team in assists from the get go

There are a few others but it also seems like one of those situations where a guy could use a new start.

yeah I agree...

…I’d love to see him here.

hmm, didn’t see that one coming. Why do think so? He’s one of the only vets that we have that can offer more than only “veteran presence”, his skills actually fit into the system. He’s worth more on the trade market or .. ?

for the sake of clarity, I’m talking about Miller getting traded this year

in the reap-what-you-sow department...

you realize that as soon as word of this post gets to wherever the Blazers fans hang out, you are going to have 400 of them writing in telling you what a lousy trade idea this is…and then proposing their own trades?! I never understand where all these Blazer fans come from – seems like 9 of 10 opposing teams’ fans here are Blazer fans. Nothing wrong with that, they all seem nice enough…but why? Are they excited to have a talented team? Sports nuts? Is it because the Blazers are the only team in town? Don’t get me wrong, they seem like a nice bunch.

I really like Felton too, I remember being just mesmerized by his game when he was at UNC. It’s like God came down to earth and decided to take up the crossover dribble. He seems like a fairly mediocre pro though, which I don’t understand, I thought he’d be the best PG out of that draft (snicker, shows you what I know). I mean I’ve barely seen him play in the NBA, but unless I’m mistaken his numbers are decent but not great? Maybe he just needs a change of scenery.

By the way speaking of UNC guys, Hansbrough is absolutely hilarious in that photo – either Obama made a super-sweet move to make him miss, or he’s “pretending” to block his shot by jumping high enough that he could block it with his elbow…but sort of fading to the left and out of the picture! Looks like the fake D a parent plays when he’s teaching his kid to play! Maybe it’s just the camera angle, but I’m guessing he didn’t want to make the future prez look bad.

We do seem to get a bunch of Blazers fans...

…whenever we mention the squad. Google alerts must be popular in Oregon.

on that topic...

I saw that the Blazers-Rockets game was in OT so thought I’d check out the “Blazer’s Edge” site – they had 2 game threads, the first one had 887 comments, the second one 1016. Guess they like their team.

First trade I don’t see how the lakers would be interested in it. Would be nice for us Wolves and the Blazers too though.

Rumor has it...

…the Lakers want to move Odom.

I read Barry will install a court in or outside the White House

His personal aide is a former Duke player, too, so he can work out nicely all the time. Can’t wait to see Sarkozy shoot free throws :)

I saw the Dukie...

….thing in an article. If I had known that, I may not have voted for him :)
