GameThread 4: vs San Antonio

San Antonio Spurs at Minnesota Timberwolves, Nov 5, 2008 7:00 PM CST

Duncan1_medium

I recommend The Blowtorch for a pictorial showdown between The Big Fun and a guy from Mad Men.

Pounding the Rock GameThread | Yahoo! Sports Preview | Star Tribune Preview

San Antonio is still searching for their first win (0-3) so they'll come out guns a-blazing and try to knock the Pups down early; a veteran team like the Spurs won't let them up easily.

Tonight should also mark the return of Sebastian Telfair. Zgoda's got a bit on him in today's Star Tribune.

Broadcast: FS North and KFAN

Here's their tip:

My installation stops at 98%. What can I do to fix this?

We have found that some users cannot load League Pass Broadband past 98%. If that is the case with your installation, you can try the following to solve the problem:

       1. Try another browser. If you are using Internet Explorer, try Firefox, and vice versa.
       2. Clear all cache and cookies.
       3. Uninstall and reinstall Flash Player. After you have the fresh install, restart your computer.

If you are still unable to load past 98%, please let us know! Click here to submit a ticket to our Technical Team. Please include your zip code, time zone, internet browser, which version of Flash you are using, and if you are on a PC or a MAC.

We will post any more information we get regarding this situation here. If you click “subscribe to topic”, you will be sent an email each time there is a update to this solution!

if you were in the TC

I’d say come on down to the Bad Waitress on Nicollet – that’s where I’m watching – this is my poor solution to all the games not on 45

wow they start Bonner?

and, wow Popovich has a beard?

by plinytheelder on Nov 5, 2008 7:10 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

wow this is ugly

this parker matchup could be very difficult on Foye

actually on the last possession they had Brewer on him, maybe not a bad idea

by plinytheelder on Nov 5, 2008 7:14 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

man Foye has no confidence at all

Duncan switched on to him and sagged off about 10 feet, and Foye wouldn’t take the shot. Then again he did drive and then dish to Miller for a 3.

Love in already with 6 min. gone

Brewer doing a fairly nice job on Parker, just blocked his shot

by plinytheelder on Nov 5, 2008 7:23 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I really like Brewer on Parker

As long as others are looking to help Brewer when he gets beat to the hole, Corey’s doing a really good job on Parker.

Bassy!

Let’s see how he does in Q2 here with Love and McCants on the floor with him. I want to see at least one Love outlet pass to Telfair for a layup.

FYI, i had trouble with the leaguepass and to reinstall flash. All good now though (except for the shooting of everyone besides Miller).

they had kind of a nice run there

with Telfair, Foye and McCants all in the game. Foye had a beautiful baseline J over Duncan, he’s the only guy who has attacked him. Bassy doing a really nice job, Parker schooling him a bit but he does that to everyone.

by plinytheelder on Nov 5, 2008 8:02 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

man Parker is impossible to guard

it’s like when he decides he wants a layup he’s getting it. Except on a bigger guy like Brewer.

by plinytheelder on Nov 5, 2008 8:03 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

beautiful

Brewer just made Parker miss at the end of the half. Like Wyn says it’s a nice matchup.

by plinytheelder on Nov 5, 2008 8:04 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

OK guess I'm only going to see the 1st half today

I’ll check in later for 2nd half ACTIONNNNNN

nice half for the Wolves, Love had a couple of defensive lapses but he’s the man, hit a 3 as a trailer

by plinytheelder on Nov 5, 2008 8:05 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

well I'm not watching anymore

but I had to say: how about McCants’s block on Duncan? That was sweet!

As we head to overtime...

..here are my thoughts on why the game isn’t over:

  • We got that turnover and Gomes right away threw it to the Spurs.
  • What was that shot by Brewer in the next possestion?
  • Bassy had that play where he dribbled under the hoop to the other side and missed a weird turn-around shot.
  • Foye?

On a positive note...

..how awesome are Love and the “South Dakota Sniper”?

Wow

Has Brewer Looked Leaps and bounds beyond last year or What?

by Tony_O on Nov 5, 2008 9:37 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Anybody

want to see Bassy at point? Foye has really let me down thus far in the early season. He hasn’t impressed me one time.

by Twins Territory on Nov 5, 2008 9:45 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Me Definatly

Bassy and Ollie….Foye is a Not a True PG, Bassy and Ollie are, I Say we should dangle Foye as Trade Bait for a Draft pick.

by Tony_O on Nov 5, 2008 9:47 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I agree

and if not a trade, at least use him as a two and not a point. Bassy has 10 assists and 8 points in 30 minutes tonight. THAT is what I want from my point. Foye makes to many bonehead plays IMO.

by Twins Territory on Nov 5, 2008 9:48 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I think we are set at 2

with Miller/McCants, 3 is pretty much set with Brewer/Gomes i think we could possibly let Miller play the 3 and have Gomes play the 4…But i just think Foye wont amount to much and get what we can for him.

by Tony_O on Nov 5, 2008 9:51 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I don’t know why they waved Love’s putback. Should’ve been an And-1, by my eyes.

And Popovich continues to demean himself by fouling Jefferson immediately. This isn’t the NFL, Pop. It’s a players’ league.

by jianfu on Nov 5, 2008 9:46 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I’ve never been a huge Foye fan (as a player, I mean). But he’s clearly playing tight in this role to start the year. Not sure what they’ll do: keep at it and hope he finds a comfort zone? Give him a DNP to clear his head? Move him off the point?

by jianfu on Nov 5, 2008 9:48 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I think

moving him to the two would be worth a shot. He won’t have to run the offense, and it’ll take away some of his stupid turnovers that he makes.

by Twins Territory on Nov 5, 2008 9:49 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

It seems

like forever since I’ve seen McCants on the floor…

by Twins Territory on Nov 5, 2008 9:50 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

He has

7 points in 13 minutes. I think maybe he took some poor shots (3-4, 1-4 threes) and maybe Wittman is showing him?

by Twins Territory on Nov 5, 2008 9:52 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Okay, Witt. how bout drawing up a good play here?

by jianfu on Nov 5, 2008 9:52 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Well, it wasn’t exactly deceptive or anything, but it worked!

This has been a great game, even if Parker nails a three or something here.

by jianfu on Nov 5, 2008 9:54 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Or a 2…

Oh well. More to come.

by jianfu on Nov 5, 2008 9:56 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Too bad Telfair’s fouled out. Man he was good tonight. Wonder if we’ll see Ollie take off the warmups, since Foye looks so shaky. They’re going to have to find a way to run the offense for 5 more minutes somehow.

by jianfu on Nov 5, 2008 9:58 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Highly Doubtfull

Look at who our coach is LOL

by Tony_O on Nov 5, 2008 9:59 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I’m not one to defend the Wolves perimeter D, but when Parker’s hitting J’s like he is tonight, he can post 50.

by jianfu on Nov 5, 2008 9:59 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Well Foye Just Put off My Critscism

Nice 3 ball their to keep us in this.

by Tony_O on Nov 5, 2008 10:06 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Poor Foye. Even when he does something right—hitting a should-be 3—he has his foot inside the arc for a long 2, Wally Szerbiak/Flip Saunders style.

But he hits a real one next time down.

by jianfu on Nov 5, 2008 10:06 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Good God the bounces are going the Spurs way….Grrr

by jianfu on Nov 5, 2008 10:08 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

By the way, which is more obnoxious? The Wolves’ Yowl sound effect of the Vikings’ horn?

by jianfu on Nov 5, 2008 10:09 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Wolves Howl

Hands Down, i Love the Vikings horn.

by Tony_O on Nov 5, 2008 10:12 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I think the Yowl guy is trigger happy this year. As in, when the Wolves turn it over and are walking back dejected, you don’t hit the Yowl button.

Anyway, I thought this was good game. I even think they should have won—without Parker going “NBA Jam” on the Wolves, or the freakish way all the long rebounds and weird bounces found Spurs players, or that inexplicable wave-off on Love’s put-back with about a minute left in the 1st OT…you get the idea.

More important, to me, they played closer to the way they probably should. Telfair was a breath of fresh air, and the three-point shooting finally showed up, giving us a glimpse of the inside-out nature the team is really suited to play. I don’t know what the hell was going offensively the first 3 games, but this seemed much more in line with how things should look moving forward.

Awesome performance out of Parker. As I said—and as Jimmy Pete said in the post game—nobody could have stopped him tonight. He normally gets to the rim whenever he wants, but he doesn’t normally make jumper after jumper like he was tonight. If he does that, he’s basically unstoppable.

Also, anyone think Telfair played his way into the starting lineup?

by jianfu on Nov 5, 2008 10:22 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Random Mario Chalmers Note...

My man had NINE steals tonight.

by jianfu on Nov 5, 2008 10:29 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I would like

to see Telfair play like this for another game or two before giving it to him. I still think Foye is the superior point, but the guy needs some sort of change to see if he can get his head back in the game.

And don’t worry too much about the offense. Remember, the first few games of last season were the Rashad McCants Show before they finally got the Al Jefferson offense running.

by McCleak on Nov 5, 2008 10:32 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

They just said on ESPN that the only other players in history to record 55 points and 10 assists are Jordan and Oscar.

Arbitrary cut-off points for stats lines tend to be, well, arbitrary. And sometimes, used carelessly, can be deceiving.

That being said, wow.
