Minnesota Timberwolves at Dallas Mavericks, Dec 30, 2008 7:30 PM CST

Hoopus: Two for two on using Palin in Maverick GameThreads!

Tonight our beloved Timberwolves take on Mark Cuban and his Mavericks. Game notes to prep:

  • Dirk Nowitzki was suspended for the last game for getting incited into elbowing Matt Harpring in the face. He'll be playing tonight.
  • Unfortunately for the Wolves, Josh HowardJason Kidd and Jason Terryare all scheduled to play.
  • The Mavs don't have a great post-presence on offense, so Big Al shouldn't get tired out on D. Between DeSagana Diop and Erick Dampier, however, Al will have plenty of bruisers to deal with on offense. They seemed to give him enough trouble in their first matchup this season, as Al got 14 points on 5-15 shooting.
  • Mike Miller is supposedly a game time decision. But, something gives me a sneaking suspicion that he won't be playing at all.
  • Randy Foye over the last 5 games: 19.2ppg, 2.6apg, 6.6rpg, on 49% shooting. Not All-Star numbers, and the rebounds are up because of a 16 board game, but 4th Quarter Foyebles is quietly putting together a very strong December.

1. McCants + 2nd round pick for Sean Williams (interior defense)

2. Craig Smith + 2nd round pick for Marcus Williams & CJ Watson (depth at guard)

This lead wouldn’t be disappearing the way it is if we made these seemingly insignificant trades.

by roundhouse on Dec 30, 2008 9:34 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Those are terrible deals.

I’d be for trading either McCants and/or Smith, but those deals are just giving them away for players with less value.

doesn't matter

Marcus Williams and CJ Watson both have expirings, Rhino does not. We have way too many committed contracts for next year considering how bad we are and how many draft picks we have coming up

I don't know why we would be slowly incorporating 1 rookie per year to this team

I wouldn’t want rookies anywhere near this trainwreck of a roster. Clean out the roster as much as possible and take 3 rookies next year.

50 % from the field

first loss we’ve had this year when shooting over 47? i think that’s the stat. of course, when you lose the 3rd quarter by 11 and the 4th quarter by 18, you probably dont have very good odds of winning.

They can't keep him after this...

…it’s that bad. He was clueless. How many timeouts did they end the game with? They didn’t foul with how many timeouts left? Good lord. What sort of 4th rate JV coach do you need to be to not understand this sort of thing? When Al is being fronted by a 7 footer and they sag 2 defenders on the backside, you would think a pro team could adjust. You would think that a basketball genius would be able to relay this sort of basic information to his players in a timeout.

I have no idea how to coach a basketball team. None.

But you know what I would have done in the 3rd period when the Mavs cut it down to say, 12-15? Send in the Love/Cardinal/McCants/Telfair/Jefferson lineup that was absolutely brutalizing the Mavs in the 2nd.

Because...

…it happened to Dwayne Casey. I like that. Karma is a nasty bitch and it couldn’t have happened more perfectly.

So in 2008 OJ is drafted by the Timberwolves and looks like someone just ran over his dog

I predict in 2009 the Timberwolves will draft Ricky Rubio and he’ll start crying like Carlo Rizzi when he’s outed by Michael Corleone.

I hope we get Cole Aldrich and Tyler Hansbrough

They would be great additions to this team

i actually looked at this the other day,

since the 02 draft, only 1 non black player has been an allstar (Yao), and only 1 white player drafted in the lottery has been decent (dunleavy). so lets hope the love machine breaks the mold. also, i haven’t yet looked at the success of lottery picks that look like crackheads, but i didnt assume it was good, and now that brewer is out for the year, it doesn’t look like they have a high success rate, either.

We but they are great team guys and do all the little things.
