Does Charley Walters Have an Editor?

His column today is titled "Acquiring Jared Allen a win for Minnesota  Vikings, according to Monte Kiffin."

He then leads with several paragraphs about Allen littered with quotes from Kiffin.

After some blather about an old hockey player and Brad Childress, Walters ends his column thusly:

OVERHEARD

Ex-Vikings defensive coordinator Monte Kiffin, who is defensive coordinator for Tampa Bay, on the Vikings after the recent acquisition of pass rusher Jared Allen: "With those two Williams guys and this guy on the outside, holy mackerel."

Look, you can call me old fashioned, but even if he has a word count to hit shouldn't he find a throw-away tidbit that isn't part of his main story byline?  You want to know where it was overheard, Charley?  In the first few paragraphs of your frickin' column, that's where:

"No doubt about it, the Vikings play the heck out of the run (on defense), and they've got to improve their pass rush," he said. "But the first thing to improve your pass defense is the pass rush. The Vikings (last season) were No. 1 against the run. You get the pass rush going, and holy cow! There would be a lot of three and outs. I just hope Allen has an off day when we play them."

Ahhhhhh...the sweet smells of journalmalism.  Do you think Buzz thinks the Bird Whisperer is full of shit too?
