Info on Chalmers

Here.

UPDATE: From ESPN:

As soon as the Timberwolves selected guard Mario Chalmers, I said out loud: "They just picked O.J. Mayo!" Now comes word from Chad Ford that Chalmers will be on his way to Miami for cash and second-round picks.

? This doesn't make sense.

God. Dammit.

I feel like I’ve been eviscerated.

Sense?

We’re talking about a team with zero depth in the frontcourt that has now passed on a uniquely skilled big man two drafts in a row. And when they have a shot at getting a 7 footer in the second round who, let’s face it, whether it was Jordan or Harden, at least would crack the rotation on the team, they take a PG, albeit a good one with a chance at being a real asset. And then compound the thing by trading him for practically nothing.

I’m going to put my head through the wall right now.

why didn't I just go to bed

I was fully prepared to call it a night thinking while… I wish we’d gotten a big man for next year but Chalmers was too good to pass up. GGGAAAAAAAA.

Do the wolves have any choice but to play Brewer, Gomes and Jefferson as their starting front court? GGGAAAAAAA

Nah

I’m thinking…

Telfair
Foye
McCants
Mayo
Jefferson

They FUBAR'd this draft

I didn’t think it was possible, but they pulled it off. How did they do it? By following the advice of folks like Tom Powers, Dan Barrerio, Sid Hartman, etc: don’t overthink it was the motto in this draft and not only did they not overthink, they didn’t think at all.

They used the top pick they will likely ever have in this whole rebuilding effort on a souped up Randy Foye while value guards like CDR and Chalmers were readily available. Even if you grant them Mayo as being a solid pick, unless there is a guarantee from Pekovic, the Chalmers deal made absolutely no sense. Either don’t draft him or take a big like Jordan or a wing like CDR. That pick alone makes this one of the most baffling drafts I’ve seen. They went on and on about having assets for players that would add legit NBA talent to their roster and they’ll walk away with a single f-ing player. That’s it. 1 guy for next year. This is terrible. Meanwhile, Miami gets the draft the Wolves should have had: Beasley and Chalmers.
