Now we need a project PG?
Doesn’t it make sense for us to at least bring a few decent PG from the summer leagues to training camp, if they’ll come. I’m not sure who these project PG should be, but I’m not thinking anyone from our SL team should fit that bill.
Who do you guys think?
Great news.
I’m really glad they made this deal happen—Bassy is a great floor leader and has plenty of potential yet to be fulfilled.
Yay we have a backup PG!
I was having nightmares of Shaddy running the point. I agree we should add a project type guy to be our 3rd PG. That’d be nice if we could get a big PG, like 6’5” or taller.
Thank God
I was afraid they were going to “on the cheap” and try to have one of those summer league stiffs actually play for us this season. That would have been a disaster if we went into the season with just Foye and random SLS (Summer League Stiff.)
I like the signing… I just wish they’d tell people how much these damn deals are for! Craig Smith and Telfair… what are we paying them? C’mon, just tell us! Pretty please???
Very happy with this, let’s see if his progress um progresses.
As for another PG. McHale (or was it Witt) has already hinted they’d like to add a guy who can play the 1-2-3. The only guy I’m seeing that fits that bill would be Livingston. I would certainly be happy if it was him.
If it isn’t him (or they can’t get him), I’d still prefer a trade (would still love to unload Shaddy, he’s the only negative locker room personality as far as I know). If all else fails I’d pick Jeter out of the batch from SL to play the 3rd point guard.
Also not getting why we’re not been told how they pay them, we’re gonna know eventually anyway, right?
yeah I’d say Jeter at least earned an invite to camp. I think they could do a lot worse for a 12th man/3rd-string pg. He’s certainly no “stiff.”

Has anyone...
...seen the specifics? All I can find is “multi-year”. I’m guessing that means “2”, but who knows?
I’m glad to see this happen. He’s about 3-5% on his FG% from being everything a starting NBA point should be…and he’s young enough to still be considered a core type of guy.

Haven't seen even a guess on Telfair's contract...
... but Zgoda guessed that Craiggers got 2yrs adn $3.5-4 million. That’s the most info I’ve seen on either.
Regarding the 1-2-3 player… hmmm… like Marko? The only other guys that come to mind are LeBron James (...), Joe Johnson (ha ha), Larry Hughes (yuck), Stephen Jackson (doesn’t really fit), Brent Barry (signed with Houston), Marquis Daniels (I’ve always liked his potential, but he’s kinda crazy and not consistent), Grant Hill (not leaving Phoenix, also too old), Fran Garcia (I like him but he’s not a difference maker), and Brandon Roy (sorry to bring it up).
Now that Telfair’s re-signed, I’m in the project 3rd string camp. John Lucas anyone? He’s a project, but he’s also got some experience. It’s got to be someone that won’t mind not playing, that’s for sure (as long as Foye and Telfair are healthy, of course).
Yea, exactly like Marko. It was McHale that said it and he actually mentions Marko. Had to listen through the whole bit to be sure so here it is:

The question is at 7:11 and he comes to the 1-2-3 thing at about 8:40
Enjoy ;)

what you haven’t heard about the Wolves’ secret plan to get D-Wade?

I always thought...
...he was talking about Mike Dunleavy. I remember Bird having a quote about McHale trying to get one of his best players. I don’t know what the Wolves would have to offer to the Pacers to make that sort of thing happen, but that was the 1st player to jump in my mind as far as McHale’s version of a 1/2/3 goes. I still think the team should take a flier on Livingston.

Wolves Front office continues to do the right thing!
The big news is not that we signed Bassy, but that the Wolves front office continues to appear to be competent, if not excelling. In my mind, this signing was the most important summer signing. It means that we have a sold starter and backup at each position (provide that Brewer can find a jump shot). It makes a person wonder if they knew they had Bassy in the bag when they traded away the second round pick to Miami. I sure has hell prefer Bassy over a second round rookie.
Though I prefer a Chalmers over Jeter. With the injuries we had I think we all agree we need at least a 3rd guard that can play PG. He doesn’t have to be one but he has to be able to play it.

Steph will be available
Wouldn’t that be funny. If Steph came back here once the Knicks undoubtedly buy him out.
I’m sure the booing at every game would be funny ^^

PG
I dunno about a project at the 3rd PG spot. Seebass is hardly a veteran point, despite his years in the league. Most teams have at least one veteran who knows exactly what he’s doing, if not to play in real games, at least to help the youngins out in practice.
Maybe for practice?
I think the Wolves should just play out the youth movement. I think if we brought in a vet it’d end up just like Buckner last year, the vet only seeing time when one of the kids is hurt or in the dog-house.
I guess I’d rather just see some young kid run out for 5-10 minutes a few times a week.
The Press Conference
Said that Bassy’s deal is 3yrs, player option on the last.
http://www.nba.com/timberwolves/news/telfair_and_mchale_presser.html
“A lot of other options were coming by the table. A lot of agents were calling us up in hopes of getting their client here. They thought they saw a lot of opportunity for minutes here. We talked to coach Wittman about all of those guys and he said naw, I’d rather have Sebastian than those guys.”
Aw, would sure love to know who those guys were…

We know...
...that Marcus Williams was one of them. That was reported earlier this week (I can’t find the link right now).

Oh yea right, read that deal with Marcus Williams. Made me feel even better about our deal with Philly. With their trade exception they get Marcus Williams (pick nr 20 or so, has disappointed), no draft picks. They give up the trade exception + draft pick.
With our trade exception we got Carney (was picked higher than Williams but has also disappointed just a bit), AND a first rounder. We give up the trade exception but no draft picks.
I’m a fool for reopening closed topics, sorry for that.
Resigning Telfair then was a much better option. Lose nothing and get a guy who has shown more. That’s a no brainer.
