Sign Chris Richard!

Am I the only guy who really wants the Wolves to sign Chris Richard?  I know we're suddenly deep at that position but hey, he's a very good rebounder and defender, shoots a good percentage, is smart, doesn't make mistakes, is young, has some potential.  Oh and according to Wikipedia his wingspan is like 7'5?!  I may be thinking more with my heart than my head since I like his game so much, but I would hate for the Wolves to lose this guy.

If anything...

...he would be a cheap roster filler. I’m hoping they stash him in the D-League for another year. I hope the coach of the SkyForce that they’re bringing into Summer League is on board with this.

Sorry but I’m totally not sold on him. Didn’t have him on my draft board at all for that 2nd round pick (I had Point Guards like Taurean Green and Petteri Koponen (who was already snatched by Portland, oh how I hate you Portland) and some bigs like Aaron Gray). He hasn’t got any special talent nor does he fill any need on our team.
There was a runnin’ gag (kinda) somewhere that the only reason he was drafted was that he had the same phone plan as Brewer…

I feel they picked him because he was on that Gator team and because he might have some talented that he hadn’t shown yet because he didn’t get off the bench much.
He’s a Bracey Wright at the Front Court.

I do agree with SnP, I hope they stash him at the D-League, this time for a full year in my view, and who knows, he might be worth a future 2nd to someone ..

I just really admire his smarts, his overall disposition as a player I guess. Maybe that seems like weak reasoning…but I think a team can always use a guy with a big body like his who can do the dirty work – I don’t think guys like that are as common as people think – they’re usually talentless stiffs, which Richard, I think, definitely is not.

Probably not going to happen on this team, but I think that on a different team he could become a 14-10 guy, sort of an Udonis Haslem type with jump-hooks and turnarounds rather than a face-up game.

by the way

I hadn’t heard of Koponen so I looked him up, looks like a really promising player. I also love the fact that he plays for the “Honka Playboys” – why can’t the NBA have team names like that?

Not sold on Green, I think he’ll be joining Lee Humphrey in Germany before long.

I like Chris, but...

... I was just thinking about the roster crunch and am having trouble fitting him into what I think they should do.

Guaranteed contracts (11)
PG: Foye
SG: McCants / Carney
SF: Miller / Brewer
PF: Love / Cardinal / Madsen
C: Jefferson / Collins / Booth

Restricted Free Agents (3)
Gomes / Smith / Richard

Unrestricted Free Agents (3)
Telfair / Snyder / Doleac

That’s 17 players. With Doleac and Snyder looking like locks to be elsewhere, it’s down to 15, with four free agents. All of the restricted free agents are front court players and that’s precisely where the glut on our roster is.

To the matter at hand, I like Richard, but I don’t think he’s as high a priority as re-signing Gomes and/or Telfair and re-signing or sign-and-trading Craig.

It will be interesting...

...to see how this 3rd tier of free agents play out. I think New Jersey and Memphis are the logical partners in any sign and trade.

I have to admit...

...this is probably dumb on my part, but I’d take Richard ahead of Smith. This is saying something because I really like Smith. I guess I just think that Richard is more likely to be an important piece on a good team (someday) than Smith. I almost can’t believe I typed that, and I realize I could be dead wrong.
