Mr. Livingston, I Presume?
It's amazing how today's news gets delivered, but coming from HoopsHype via Yahoo Sports, it looks like the Blazers, Heat and Timberwolves are competing for the services of Shaun Livingston, the rehabbing, formerly-known-as-the-Clippers PG-wunderkind. You can read about it here. According to Yahoo Sports, Jim Stack, the Mayor, and Wittman went down to Chicago to watch Livingston work out and want to sign him immediately. Competing reports have the Heat and Blazers as front runners to also acquire his services, but we'll have to see how this all plays out.

My colleague S-N-P has been advocating Livingston's signing for months; as a PG with combo skills. Given that his role would indeed be the third point guard/combo one, if Livingston is healthy, at 6' 7" he certainly would bring size to the position. It would also allow Wittman more flexibility to play both Foye and Telfair in the same backcourt, knowing there was a reliable backup to sub in. A lot of "ifs" most assuredly, but given the need and his availability, it's suprising that the Wolves couldn't have been a little more aggressive in evaluating and making an offer to the kid. However, with an injury as nasty as Livingston's was, it would give any signing executive pause for thought, although now it seems as if they have seen enough and are ready to move...if possible.
Stay tuned.

crossing fingers so much it bleeds ^. I’m so waiting for McHale to say, “we wanted to add another combo, Livingston was that guy” so I can say “I knew it!” ^

The roster squeeze will be interesting.
They have 14 contracts, Richard and then Livingston. Bye bye Booth? I would’ve said that was automatic last week, but with Collins out for a while, Booth might be worth holding onto for a spell.

Even though we can't get many folks to come to Minny...
I can’t see how Livingston would find the Blazers a good fit for him, especially with the guards they have already. Miami would be probably best, with the Wolves second. If he was healthy at all here, he would get minutes.
As for the roster moves, if they get Livingston, I’d advocate moving Shaddy. I’m not a big Booth fan at all, but if they drop the tattooed one, we are extremely undersized in the front court until Collins gets back. Then again, the Wolves brain trust doesn’t seem at all concerned about that.

Why not give Richard some minutes? He should have gotten more last year, so maybe he gets ‘m this year. I’d rather have Richard playing than Booth.

I think Richard gets minutes regardless...
But Collins and Booth are playing the Doleac role from last year, matching up against the likes of Shaq and bigger front courts. Richard is a bit undersized, but I agree he should get more of look this year.

yeah Richard should get minutes just as a reward for that awesome photo with Green

this could be a fantastic signing
it could also be a useless one if he doesn’t heal up. as a warriors fan (living in minnesota) i was really pulling for that signing before they got marcus williams, for a lot of the same reasons it would be good for the wolves. both teams have a undersized 2 guard playing the point (monta, foye) who could really be freed up by moving them to their natural position. that said, no way mchale does it, for two reasons:
1. all indications say he is sold on foye as the point guard of the future. i’d love to hear some thoughts on this. i feel this is yet another great example of “kevin mchale terrible gm” i see foye as good 6/7th man who comes off the bench and can play both guard positions, you don’t win playoff series with guys like him as your starting point. (you also don’t win playoff series with a front court like the one assembled there, or without anyone who plays defense)
2. it’s too obvious, too easy, and not absurd enough. solution: trade for stephon marbury’s expiring contract.

OK...
…I can take a break from the madness (almost over) to comment: this has to happen. The guy is a former lotto pick and they can pay him for 2 years more than other teams can without it hurting their bottom line. If it works out, you have a 6’7" point. If it doesn’t, you clear the money in 2 years and after you draft another guard in the 09 draft. It doesn’t matter if he doesn’t play or only plays about 10 games this year….if he can play in year 2, and if he is able to regain his form, it’s all worth it. There is literally no risk in bringing him on board.

remember when
the big debate was over who was the better PG prodigy, se-bass or livingston?
imagine them fighting for minutes on the same team.

According to Jason Quick at the Oregonian...
Livingston worked out for the Blazers on Friday in Tucson, and are checking his medical records. Ira Windeman of the Sun-Sentinel says that the Heat will work him out next week. Of course no mention of any Wolves activity in the quickly dwindling local news papers. Then again, it is a third point guard who—if signed—may not play many minutes this year.
You have to admire both Livingston and Darius Miles for trying to take the long road back to the NBA. Probably not being able to do anything else is a great motivator…

If Livingston Signs
i see Booth, Cardinal and Collins getting shipped out the door.
by Tony_O on Sep 14, 2008 2:22 PM CDT 0 recs
Hmm...
not sure about that one. Cardinal’s contract is hard to move on it’s own, and if you get rid of both Booth and Collins, it leaves the Wolves without any size at all in the front court. Out of those three, I could see Booth being waived or dealt once Collins was back.
