Thorpe on Livingston

Props to Andy G for making the Four-letter chat today:

Andy G: (Minneapolis, MN): David, Wolves' fans are buzzing about Shaun Livingston. A) Why haven't we signed him, yet? B) Will he be any good by 2009-10?

David Thorpe: Let's not discuss him again, at least until he does anything worthwhile.

Thorpe also called Al as an All-Star:

Chad, Minnesota: Will the Wolves have anyone at all star weekend this season? I can't count Gerald Green from last year, ugh

David Thorpe: AJ. Love in the rookie game.

Back to Livingston, though, since training camp hasn't started we'll discuss him as much as we damn well please, thank you very much.

Note from that chat....
Joe (Portsmouth): Almost $6/year for Garcia??? Petrie is a great talent evaluator, but the Kings really know how to overpay for slightly better than average players!

David Thorpe: Average players are worth just under 6 a year. So I think it was smart-not many guys can be a 40% 3 point shooter and be excellent on defense.

I’d agree an average player for $6 million is not bad when you think of 1 year, but for 5 years (including the player option) I think that is bad business in the NBA. Especially when that guy is the 2nd average backcourt player you’ve given 5 year deals to in one off season.

Ha

Thanks—I thought it was a reasonable question, but he pretty much shot it down. I guess the national scene isn’t too interested in Livingston yet, especially if he joins the Wolves.

He's been asked that question...

like 5 chats in a row. I’d guess that was his reasoning. He probably didn’t have anything to add to the discussion the first time it was asked.

LoL, I hate it how 75% of the decent questions don’t get answered while most of the idiot questions are.
