Around SBN: Steve McNair Dead - Former NFL QB Shot and Killed

Robin (ohio): do you think wally szczerbiak will get traded at the trade deadline even with the strong play of tha cavs?

SportsNation Chad Ford: Yeah, they'll want to pick up an asset for him. I've heard rumblings about Mike Miller. Younger, provides great shooting and his contract expires in 2010. Gives the Wolves roughly $21 million in cap room to play with in the summer of 2009.

Andy G: (Minneapolis, MN): Chad, Is there a great guard prospect in the '09 Draft, or did Minnesota completely blow it when they traded away OJ Mayo?

SportsNation Chad Ford: Great? I'm not sure. James Harden and Ricky Rubio (if he declares) both look really good. Not sure either is OJ, however. Right now I have them drafting Thabeet in the latest mock draft. If McHale drafts him, then he's guaranteed to be a bust.

Ha, thanks

I think I’ve been on the computer too much, today. I’m glad he answered the question, though—I think we’ll be hard-pressed to find a rookie guard to produce like Mayo has. Interesting that he has us taking Thabeet. If that happens, what happens to Love?

Good job on the 4-letter

:)

I think if they take Thabeet he will a) be a bust (sorry Wim ;)) and b) that they will rotate he, Big Al, and Love at the 4/5 with 10-15 minutes coming from elsewhere (Cardinal or Smith). That leaves about 80 minutes for 3 guys. That’s more than doable.

Haha, I used to hate that draft things. The kind of silly answers they sometimes give … until I realized it’s not to be taken hyper seriously, since then I like them chats.

Don’t worry about McHale drafting Thabeet and then him becoming a bust. McHale is all for skill in big men, he won’t draft Thabeet. Also, where we’re drafting Thabeet is rediculous, is was routing for us to nab him with nr31 … not with nr2.

I think we have to pray pray pray for Rubio. A guy that doesn’t need plays drawn out, a guy that creates plays on the fly. He might be the missing link to fix all problems in our offense, make the offense flow and let our finishers finish.

Wim...

…solid, solid point about McHale and skilled bigs. I had an inkling of why he wouldn’t draft him but I couldn’t put my finger on it. That’s a solid take.

I doubt we'll take Thabeet.

Love-Jefferson is our front line and we’re in desperate need for a playmaking guard. Doesn’t really matter if it’s a point or a two—just somebody that can break down the defense.

Trading Miller to the Cavs is interesting. I imagine the Wolves could probably pick up a future pick for their trouble, too.

But the idea of the Wolves having $21 million in cap space is a little scary. It’s all too easy to imagine the team might be tempted into some questionable deals as they get desperate to get this thing righted.

Hell, the UFA I really want them to go after—Trevor Ariza—is a non-scorer, and therefore likely to be undervalued. I imagine they could easily land him without clearing space (they’ll already have $12 million available if they simply let all their in-house guys walk, as they should, McCants included).

???
Miller
Ariza
Love
Jefferson

That’s just one penetrating/creating/shooting/defending guard away from being an interesting team. Anyone know of any trees that grow those? Maybe in Spain?

Rubio would be extremely nice with this team.

The pick and roll possibilities are endless.

I'm really bummed...

…that Rubio probably won’t be declaring this year. That, and disappointing performances almost across the board for the top freshman players. This just doesn’t seem to be a great year to be the team that “controls” the draft. Typical Timberwolves luck, I suppose.

Given Brewer...

being on the team I’d have a hard time supporting the team signing another role player level SF. I like Ariza and think he is better than Brewer but it is an incremental upgrade.
