Lamar Odom goes down with knee injury
On the Mike Miller trade watch front, Lamar Odom went down with a knee injury last night and will undergo an MRI today to find the extent of the damage.
The Cavs and Lakers are the two most obvious partners in a potential Miller trade and it will be interesting to see if the Lakers feel compelled to make a move should Odom be out for extended time.

How would the money work...
with the Lakers? They don’t have any big expendable contracts. The Wolves aren’t going to trade Miller for a guy that junks up the cap down the road and the Lakers can’t give up pieces they need.

I would advise using shamsports.com for all you nba contract needs
hoopshype tends to be less accurate.

Can we get anything besides cap space from LAL?
On the Trade Machine, we could swap Mike Miller and Brian Cardinal for Lamar Odom. That would obviously clear up more 2009 cap space.
But, with rumors that Dallas is shopping Josh Howard and Chicago needs a low-post player (and would have to give up Luol Deng to get a good one, see Ford’s chat, yesterday) I have a little bit higher hopes for a Mike Miller trade. There are good players around the league that are either disgruntled with their team (Monta Ellis) or allegedly being shopped (Josh Howard)… if we can keep Jefferson and next year’s lotto pick, it’d be cool to get a player like Ellis, Howard or Deng in a trade.

Do not want...
..Deng. Bad salary. Bad play. Do. Not. Want. I also don’t think Howard would work because of past draft history with the team and his off-season stupidity (see weed, comments about the national anthem). The Bulls and Golden State are interesting though. Thomas and Noah have worth if they could just get their heads wrapped around their natural roles. Thomas has the potential to be a very disruptive front court defensive dynamo the Wolves need. A Josh Smith type of guy who could be a fantastic help side shot blocker. I don’t know if he’ll ever realize that potential but
I don’t want Ellis but I’d take Brandon Wright in a heartbeat. Doesn’t rebound worth a lick but the length at the 3 is interesting. How about this:
To the Lakers:
Jason Collins
Mike Miller
To the Warriors:
Craig Smith
To the Wolves:
Lamar Odom
Brandan Wright.

I haven't seen Deng...
really play much, to be honest—at least not recently. You’ve stated your Anti-Dukie Bias enough times for me to question the harsh critique of him there, but I’ve also read from others that he’s not living up to the hype (that he created himself, with a good start to his career).
Monta is a stud, but he’s similar (but better with more upside) to Foye. Unless Randy was part of the trade or becomes a 6th Man, we’d have an issue, there.
I like B-Wright, but he’s a power forward, and we’re pretty well log-jammed there. I was hoping to bring in one of the quality 2/3 players that could potentially be traded. Caron Butler could also be on the market, though I’m not sure that Washington wants to trade its only all-around player.
As for Howard, I think his talent outweighs one off-season of poor decisions. There’s a rumor that Toronto might get him for Bargnani. If that’s his market value, I sure hope we’re on the phones.
Noah could probably be had for cheap. Sounds like it’s working out there as well as it is for Shaddy in Minnesota, Conley in Memphis and Redick in Orlando. Not well. He might be a good guy next to Jefferson.

My hope with Butler...
….is that the Wiz finally wake up and realize that they’ve blown the bank and need to clear some space in a rebuilding effort.
Also, you’ve correctly identified my anti-Dukie bias. Never trust a Dukie. They will only burn you in the long run. It’s in their nature as they were trained by a whiny a-hole. Even the “good” ones will do nothing but leave your favorite team in ruins after walking out on hand shake deals with ownership or fellow players.
Noah sounds like he’s burned quite a few bridges in Chicago. I wonder if he’s salvagable behind the scenes.

Butler's salary is affordable
If the Wiz break the bank, methinks it starts with Jamison.
You know you'll get devoured by Cheaney, Wallace, and Juwan Howard.

I've never been an Odom fan,
I hope he doesn’t end up here. I love his versatility, and I know he’s a matchup nightmare…I just think he’s got “good player on a mediocre team” written all over him. I think he hurt the Lakers more than he helped them in the finals. I don’t know what it is about him…I suspect that his game is the kind of game that ceases to work once the D gets better – lots of finesse drives with the aim of ending in a layup, lots of cute but risky passes, pretty suspect jump shot, etc. I’d take any of those other guys over him, though I admittedly know very little about Wright.

I don't know the rules of trading an injured player....
…but he gets included only if he’s hurt and the Wolves would simply view him as cap filler.

I'm not a fan of Odom
But I’d do a Miller and Collins for Odom in a heartbeat. Here’s why: the Wolves can just buy him out. Not only do they save money this year (Odom’s Contract < Miller + Collins) they don’t have Miller on the books next year. Personnel-wise, it’s tilted enough towards LA that it wouldn’t be out of the question to imagine a pick included in the deal as well.

agreed....
…it’s a ton of freed up cap space. If they could make it Miller + Cardinal it would be even better.

What about this deal...
Wolves trade to Lakers…
Mike Miller
Booth
Ollie
Lakers trade to Wolves
Farmar
Rad Vlad
Mihm
Vlad has an awful contract (3 more years at about 6 mil a year), but Farmar is a pretty good point guard prospect. Even though his play tailed off a little before his injury, I’d still say he is a better point guard prospect than everyone in next year’s draft not named Ricky.
In the end, I still don’t think I do this deal though. I just hate Rad Vlad.

Farmer is pretty good...
but I don’t see him stud on a playoff team. If he isn’t that than I wouldn’t sacrifice the cap space that comes with Rad Vlad.
