New Ulm!!!
This isn't really basketball related but as a southern Minnesotan I'm kind of interested to see just how much "New Ulm" (the majority of filming was done in Canada) is in the movie.
If the yocals aren't drinking Schell's or Grain Belt, if they don't eat at Kaiserhoff, and if there is no mention of Herman the German, I'm going to be ticked.

Wow
I never thought I’d see the Kaiserhoff dropped on a basketball blog or the internet period. I was born in St. Peter and lived in New Ulm until I was ten and this allows me to be a qualified expert— this flick looks awful. I do like the south MN love, though. And I highly doubt Renee Z. even knows who Herman the German is.

Word on the local front is..
…that a film crew came to New Ulm and took some outside shots for the movie but that they didn’t actually film there because of tax reasons. At least they kept the setting I suppose. Gran Torino is another example of Minnesota losing out on our own movies.
BTW, the movie does look terrible.

It was written by a local writer and inspired by....
…well, here’s the Strib article. They moved it to Detroit for the movie.

There are 2 awesome local producers...
…..from Madelia where we buy honey and peanut butter. Kind of random but it’s good stuff. We’re kind of kicking ourselves for not buying a house in St. Peter and going with Mankato instead. We looked at one right across the street from the St. Peter community center and balked on it because it was 5k over what we wanted to spend. In retrospect, being across from a park (with 2 kids) in a town where we could have walked everywhere would have been nice.

I did have to chuckle at the white out scene...
…I had to pull off the road on Hwy 14 outside of Sleepy Eye during the last snow storm. Up the hill on the prairie it can get a bit silly when the wind picks up in winter.

I Blame T-Paw
He basically thumbed his nose at the MP industry by eliminating the Film Board and the tax incentives to shoot here.

So he raised taxes on Hollywood?
Wasn’t that a Simpsons episode?
