The Henk Norel petition
I for one am disgusted with the amount of national attention a player of Henk Norel's stature receives. Right now he is dominating his competition at a rate of 4 points and 2 rebounds at a 66% clip. How is the national media not swarming this guy with attention yet? More importantly, why do we not have a EuroWatch page for Henk?! Apparently we drafted some other guy who used to be good enough to play on Henk's team too, I haven't heard much about him, but we should have a EuroWatch page for him too. You know, on the off chance that he can ever become half of what Norel was in junior high.
In all seriousness though, if you extend Henk's numbers out per 40 minutes, he is doing pretty well at 13.3pts, 7rbs, and 2 blocks. Not altogether bad. Last year he was up at 19pts, 9rbs, and a block. Obviously this comes from a small sample size of only 13 and 12 minutes a game... but he isn't as bad as I first wrote him off as being.
Rubio on the other hand, has actually improved his assist rate (which is tough in Europe keep in mind) while lowering his TOs through 14 games. Right now per 40 he is dishing 10 assists per 3 turnovers. He's even an average rebounder at about 5 per 40 over his career. Even his free throw shooting seems to be improving steadily over time. Three point shooting has been fairly consistent between 30 and 40%, but usually on the lower end of that. Good thing he is a good passer and defender though because his shooting efficiency has never been too impressive... or consistent. His shooting averages have jumped around from 30% to 53.1% (although 30% was a low sample size and the next closest to that is 34.8 and then 37.5 where it climbs incrementally from there between years). The issue here is that its not consistently improving, it just seems to jump around randomly.
Anyways, the point of this post was to see if there was enough desire to update our Euro watch with news and maybe even some nice youtube clips of Rubio and Norel. Because if you really look at it, we have far and away the best Euro Assets in the league, so why not have the best coverage too?

10 assists per 40 for ricky? wow. i don’t need to say it, because you did point it out, but that’s absolutely amazing considering how stingy they are with assists in europe. and give the man his due on the defensive end- he’s better than good. try “ACB DPOY” last year. can’t wait to see him in the NBA.

He should definitely be special
The only worry I have is with Belinelli. Apparently he made a whole bunch of passes that would fly in Euro ball but not here? I read this comment a couple times at GSoM and you probably have a better view here. And while Rubio is obviously a better passer than Belinelli, I worry a little bit about how many of those passes might go from assists to turnovers in a different league. Then again, his passes are so often crazy and unexpected (even his teammates don’t always see it coming) that the defense will be hard pressed to know when and where they are coming. Have any thoughts on this?

His passes might be crazy, but they're very accurate, which makes the difference I should think.
The only problem I’ve seen is that his teammates don’t know how to catch the ball, but that’s not Ricky’s fault.

TJ Ford
He made all kinds of difficult passes in college as a freshman and he has posted high assist #s in the NBA. I see no reason why Rubio’s ridiculous passing abilities in an even more difficult level of competition suffers if Ford’s haven’t.

True
But if I remember correctly, the passes Belinelli was throwing away were easy passes that he was used to being able to make across the entire court whereas in this league, they would get picked off. I have a feeling Rubio will figure it out pretty quickly if he needs to make an adjustment though.

rubio is a much better passer than belinelli. there’s really no comparision. his court vision is amazing, while belinelli is just flashy. rubio draws steve nash comparisons with his passing. there’s a reason for this, watching him play is incredible. he’ll make plays in the NBA. it’s just the shooting that could be an issue, but most guys improve steadily in that regard.

Pekovic is doing well also - 17.2 ppg, 4.6 rpg in 24 minutes
He was pulled out of the starting line-up last game though – anyone know why?
