It's fair to say that the early returns on picking up the Brewer option aren't good. As many predicted, he's not justifying the faith that we placed in his development. Other than the Etan Thomas plus 2nd rounders cost savings deal for Atkins, the Brewer option was one of Kahn's obvious mistakes this summer.
Anyone have any thoughts on a potential trade that we might make later this year to get rid of his salary for 2010-11? An ideal trade partner would likely not be near the luxury tax nor be positioned to have cap space next year. An interesting angle might make some sense as well -he's from TN and went to college in FL.
Brewer and a 2nd rounder to Memphis for Steven Hunter? Would Memphis take a naitive son?
Or, are we going to have to give up a first rounder (like we got for taking Rodney Carney) to clear his salary?
Maybe we use Gomes to leverage a late first from a playoff contender that we use to shed Brewer? In essence we trade Gomes and Brewer for expirings with Gomes positive value offsetting Brewer's negative value.
