Game Thread: Down in Miami

Minnesota Timberwolves at Miami Heat, Feb 18, 2009 6:30 PM CST

Enjoy.  For a Heat perspective, head on over to our sister site, The Peninsula is Mightier.

BTW: Good news, Al Jefferson underwent successful knee surgery this afternoon:

NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Minnesota Timberwolves center Al Jefferson underwent successful surgery on his right knee on Wednesday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament that cut short his season.

The operation was performed by Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. After Jefferson recovers, he will begin the rehabilitation process, which may take six to eight months.

Just curious...

What might an unsuccessful knee surgery on an athlete involve? Doctors saying they’d have to go in for a second procedure? Or something more ghoulish, like Big Al coming out with a leg protruding from his forehead?

Bulls - Wolves Deal

I proposed a deal earlier:

Wolves get Hinrich and Noah,
Bulls get McCants, Collins, Cardinal, and #1 pick

Many people asked why Chicago would do the deal…

They are trying to clear cap space to make a run at Bosh in 2010. Also, Minnesota could certainly say, we’ll take Hinrich, but you have to include Noah….

Bulls get 8 million expiring contracts this year and 8 million next year, plus a first round pick.

Personally I hope the wolves are pushing for this deal, because I think Chicago would pull the trigger…

Plus Noah is a perfect fit as the third big alongside AL and Love…

We’ll see what happens over the next 12 hours!

by DR_JPK on Feb 18, 2009 7:36 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

Noah would make it worthwhile...

….that allows them to focus on the perimeter in the draft.

by TMiss on Feb 18, 2009 7:40 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

nope..

….30-35 mpg for Love, 35 for Big Al, and the remaining 30+ minutes for Noah. They’d split the 96 minutes at the 4/5.

I agree...

That said, I hope he’s right on this particular one.

I do feel the Wolves are in position to pull off a good trade. But short of that, getting through the deadline without adding an albatross contract has got to be a decent consolation prize (take your victories where you can get them…)

Hinrich’s getting burn tonight, BTW.

I guess the Thunder trade might be more justifiable than a TImberwolves trade just because Joe Smith and Chris WIlcox might play some role in getting the Hornets past the first round of the playoffs. No expiring TImberwolf player could play minutes for the Hornets. Still, a horrendous trade for the fans.

hard to fill the gaping “defensive big man with size” roster deficiency better than Chandler or Dalembert. Of course, our former GM and current coach seems to find that style of player aesthetically distastful…

I don’t even enjoy watching the guy anymore, his whole game is built around that

by plinytheelder on Feb 18, 2009 9:04 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

it would make for a funny video..

….to have a skit about “D Wade as applied in real life”. Jumping into co-workers. Taking a running jump into a biker around Lake Nokomis…and so on and so forth.

yeah..

the more I think about it, the moore I think this was a good trade for Tor. – I think O’Neal is basically done. I hate to say it…but he’s just got no lift anymore.

4 more turnovers

I wasn’t able to watch the game, but does Bassy’s performance give Taylor/McHale/Hoiberg second thoughts about taking on Hinrich’s awful contract? My opinion, Bulls have to include Noah or we shouldn’t even consider.

by TWolvesFanInLA on Feb 18, 2009 9:11 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

man it's like Chris Childs said once

after he had his best game ever (also against Miami if I remember right) – “damn, I think I need my own team!”

by plinytheelder on Feb 18, 2009 9:12 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

ops sorry

it was Charlie Ward

by plinytheelder on Feb 18, 2009 9:13 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

if it does..

….then it will confirm the thought that they don’t care one bit about stats. This game is about as big of an outlier as you can find. It’s a goofy ass win. The deal should be considered on its own merits, not with anything that happened tonight…although I completely agree about Noah.

They did give Troy Hudson that lucrative contract after one good playoff series

by oblivionspocket on Feb 18, 2009 9:21 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

Thanks for reminding me....

….of that. I’ve been meaning to revisit it and just how stupid of a signing it was. Glen would have been better off rolling up a wad of cash and feeding it to random small animals. My lord he was bad.

The Lakers basically admitted afterward

that they picked the worst regular on the Wolves, and decided that they would leave him alone to concentrate on the other four on the floor—reasoning that, if Troy Hudson could knock them out of the playoffs by himself, they didn’t deserve to advance any further.
