Game Thread: Down in Miami
Minnesota Timberwolves at Miami Heat, Feb 18, 2009 6:30 PM CST
Enjoy. For a Heat perspective, head on over to our sister site, The Peninsula is Mightier.
BTW: Good news, Al Jefferson underwent successful knee surgery this afternoon:
NEW YORK (Ticker) -- Minnesota Timberwolves center Al Jefferson underwent successful surgery on his right knee on Wednesday to repair a torn anterior cruciate ligament that cut short his season.
The operation was performed by Dr. David Altchek at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York. After Jefferson recovers, he will begin the rehabilitation process, which may take six to eight months.

Let's get on the Cardinal watch
The World's Leading Exporter of Small Area Quickness
www.canishoopus.com
where the hell did that come from?
The World's Leading Exporter of Small Area Quickness
www.canishoopus.com
Just curious...
What might an unsuccessful knee surgery on an athlete involve? Doctors saying they’d have to go in for a second procedure? Or something more ghoulish, like Big Al coming out with a leg protruding from his forehead?
Unexpected damage....
…would be my guess.
The World's Leading Exporter of Small Area Quickness

Collins getting some burn...
….still no Cardinal. BTW: the Heat got really good with O’Neal and Moon.

they do...

1st and 3rd quarters are tough for them....
…which is probably the result of starting the wrong personnel for much of the year.
The World's Leading Exporter of Small Area Quickness

So you’re saying Craig Smith and Ryan Gomes aren’t the answers?
(Man, these Hinrich rumors have made me grumpy.)
just a bit..
…plus having Foye off the ball hurt as well.

Hmm Maybe if we dont see cardinal or shaddy...
Maybe a trade has gone down and we dont know about it yet.
that would be my guess.....
….but it’s hard to say yet because Collins subbed in because of a big mismatch

Any stats on where Carney hits his shots from? I swear he has missed everything besides corner treys and dunks.
KFAN's been talking
about how Carney did a good job on D against Wade last time. The way my feed is jerking I have no way of assessing how he’s doing tonight.
what's really frustrating about the NBA..
…..is that it would take very little to put additional info in that stat site. Do players go left or right from those boxes? How many are assisted? How about a rebounding chart like that?
The World's Leading Exporter of Small Area Quickness
www.canishoopus.com
I listened to that Hollinger-Simmons podcast...
Pretty good discussion of the problems with the NBA’s stats and history.
THanks for the hot zones. Carney is like Bowen—loves that corner.
If you are going to be a defending/3 point specialist...
…that is the spot to do it from. It’s the easiest long jump shot in the game.
The World's Leading Exporter of Small Area Quickness
www.canishoopus.com
That's true
but I’m sure if info doesn’t have utility in terms of fantasy play, then mass distributors (NBA.com; espn.com) aren’t going to bother.
In other words, freaks like us will need to keep purging the obscure sites…
Beasley's an idiot
I hate the way he chomps on his mouthguard and has that lackadaisacal (sp?) look….God, I’m glad we ended up with Love instead of this guy.
Why he doesn't get more burn alongside Love..
…is beyond me.

D-Wade...
…had the big-time AI palming trick going on with that last move. I haven’t seen that big of a palm in a while.

Bulls - Wolves Deal
I proposed a deal earlier:
Wolves get Hinrich and Noah,
Bulls get McCants, Collins, Cardinal, and #1 pick
Many people asked why Chicago would do the deal…
They are trying to clear cap space to make a run at Bosh in 2010. Also, Minnesota could certainly say, we’ll take Hinrich, but you have to include Noah….
Bulls get 8 million expiring contracts this year and 8 million next year, plus a first round pick.
Personally I hope the wolves are pushing for this deal, because I think Chicago would pull the trigger…
Plus Noah is a perfect fit as the third big alongside AL and Love…
We’ll see what happens over the next 12 hours!
Noah would make it worthwhile...
….that allows them to focus on the perimeter in the draft.
The World's Leading Exporter of Small Area Quickness
www.canishoopus.com
nope..
….30-35 mpg for Love, 35 for Big Al, and the remaining 30+ minutes for Noah. They’d split the 96 minutes at the 4/5.
The World's Leading Exporter of Small Area Quickness
www.canishoopus.com
Apparently McHale has "thrown water" on Hinrich talk
there goes the coach with the GM comments AGAIN… i smell a post.
www.canishoopus.com
Can we please Fire this fucking idiot
Christ i’m so sick of McHale downplaying the fact that we need to make a trade.
they do need to shut him up on this stuff
The World's Leading Exporter of Small Area Quickness
www.canishoopus.com
I agree...
That said, I hope he’s right on this particular one.
I do feel the Wolves are in position to pull off a good trade. But short of that, getting through the deadline without adding an albatross contract has got to be a decent consolation prize (take your victories where you can get them…)
Hinrich’s getting burn tonight, BTW.
agreed...
…it won’t be a bad thing if they don’t make a move. although, it will be disappointing if it turns out that they passed on Chandler, Dalembert, and the Wizards pick.
The World's Leading Exporter of Small Area Quickness
www.canishoopus.com
I'm still upset they didn't get in on the Chandler action...
…maybe they did, but he was there for the taking.
The World's Leading Exporter of Small Area Quickness
www.canishoopus.com
he's ok..
…but he’s an expiring contract.
The World's Leading Exporter of Small Area Quickness
www.canishoopus.com
I guess the Thunder trade might be more justifiable than a TImberwolves trade just because Joe Smith and Chris WIlcox might play some role in getting the Hornets past the first round of the playoffs. No expiring TImberwolf player could play minutes for the Hornets. Still, a horrendous trade for the fans.

Cardinal is untouchable
…just kidding…kind of…..seriously, his +/- sample size is getting larger and larger. Is he really this solid? Now I guess I see why he got the contract he has.
the way he got the contract...
…was kind of funny. The Memphis owner was bitching to Jerry West about not using the MLE. West said “fine” picked up the phone and gave Cardinal the deal of a lifetime.
The World's Leading Exporter of Small Area Quickness
www.canishoopus.com
dude's got integrity
at this point in his career he could coast his way through his contract and retire a rich man, but he’s fit and ready and contributing. Just at a pretty expensive level.

SHOOT IT next time Miller.
Looks like the Grizzlies Acquired another Useless Big man to play along Marc Gasol and Darko Millicic
Recieved Chris Mihm from the Lakers today
Glad that's over
(this game’s obligatory Mike Miller on the floor writhing in pain, then getting up and playing)
he just slammed into jermaine O’neal and didn’t feel the need to display a somataform disorder. Sadly O’neal seemed to be injured.

The World's Leading Exporter of Small Area Quickness
www.canishoopus.com
a couple of times Love's been isolated
with his back to the basket about 15 ft. from the basket, totally isolated. He takes a couple of dribbles and then passes it back out to someone…with 5 sec.s left on the clock. I don’t care if it’s J O’Neal guarding him, he needs to take him on.
How is that a charge with O'Neal having his feet inside the circle?
The World's Leading Exporter of Small Area Quickness
www.canishoopus.com
Yeah, but...
Miller needs to learn about a new move in basketball. It’s called the “pull-up jumper”. Really innovative move that I guess more and more guys are trying to incorporate in their games…..

Rhino would be good to have on your team if you were playing a video game and had all of the fouls turned off. He’d be great at running over the pg to create steals and muscling his way to the basket from the arc.

I wasn’t able to watch the game, but does Bassy’s performance give Taylor/McHale/Hoiberg second thoughts about taking on Hinrich’s awful contract? My opinion, Bulls have to include Noah or we shouldn’t even consider.

The Lakers basically admitted afterward
that they picked the worst regular on the Wolves, and decided that they would leave him alone to concentrate on the other four on the floor—reasoning that, if Troy Hudson could knock them out of the playoffs by himself, they didn’t deserve to advance any further.
