I can't stand that call...

If a shooter jumps IN to a defender, the foul should be on the shooter. I seriously hope the NBA has a major revision of it’s refs and rules sometime soon.

definitely my least favorite play

my opinion is that the defender has a right to the airspace above his feet if he is standing straight up with his hands straight up or if he jumps straight up. Offensive players should only get to shoot free throws if the defense initiates the contact. Limiting shooting fouls is good for the game. No one wants to watch free throws for twenty minutes. Free throws ruin the flow of the game. Plus, every time a foul is required, the possibility for error increases because refs have to make judgment calls. Reducing the situations in which a foul is needed would therefore increase the validity of the final outcome.

Love still gets position for rebounding at center, it just doesnt compensate for the height difference. His weakness on D is the same thing, his height. Otherwise he’s had a good game I thought with 15 pts 2 ast

NBA ref-ing strikes again...

I literally stopped watching the NBA for years because of the refs, but finally got the League Pass again this year. I don’t even blame the refs, I blame the NBA for making it too complicated, and too easy to favor STAR players.

Initiating play-altering contact with someone is a foul…anything else is not. We could get the actors, floppers, and poseurs out of the game if we made it that simple…too bad it’ll never be that simple.

"I'm gonna make you cry...I'm gonna make you cry and dip my cookie in your tears!!!"

by mutleyil on Feb 24, 2009 8:04 PM CST up reply actions   0 recs

I think they over reacted to the Pistons-Lakers series

They were so upset five players who weren’t superstars could play as a cohesive unit in order to defeat four beloved stars who sort of dogged their way through the finals. After that, the balance of the game was tweaked to favor stars playing on the perimeter giving us the terrible dallas-miami series.

It was as if Dwayne Wade’s father was a zillionaire who bought his son a championship for his birthday, but wanted his son to believe the experience was genuine. So, we were all forced to play along as Dwayne shot three throws for two hours.

I personally like to see a physical game without many stoppages.

Randy Wittman is shocked that this 4th quarter line-up for the Wolves blew the game. Ryan Gomes at Center vs Bosh…how could we go wrong?

by Blakeley on Feb 24, 2009 8:29 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

I know we've got a built in excuse to lose now...

With Big Al out… But there are some very disturbing things happening with our favorite team:

Our coach plays our best player way too many minutes when it doesn’t matter, and won’t play him at all when it does.
Our coach won’t even put anything close to a Center on the floor.
Mike Miller will absolutely NOT try to score more.

Maybe we’re already looking at lottery balls, but I wish we’d show a little more effort. The Wolves front office, of all people, should know how pointless lottery balls are.

"I'm gonna make you cry...I'm gonna make you cry and dip my cookie in your tears!!!"

by mutleyil on Feb 24, 2009 8:29 PM CST reply actions   0 recs

At this point, and after games like this, it almost looks like our Organization is tanking for the lottery. I mean, how else can you explain some of this stuff? Playing Ollie so many minutes? Playing Gomes at center? Not playing Love? Playing lineups consisting of Smith, Ollie, Carney, Cardinal, Bobby Brown… I mean, seriously, wtf? This game was just complete crap and is hardly worth the time for any of us to get upset about. If our FO doesn’t care, then why should we?

With that said, Gomes has been playing GREAT lately. Shame on all of you for ripping him. At times, he’s clearly been our best all-around player and it’s not even close. He’s really stepped up his point production lately too.

How sad is it that Mike Miller almost gets triple doubles every few games, yet the thing holding him back is scoring TEN POINTS! My goodness, what a joke. What is he doing out there? How many times does he drive the lane and pass it. He’s shot less than a dozen mid range jumpers by my count this season. It’s either a lay-up or a three pointer. He could seriously be scoring 20 much needed points per game, but he flat-out REFUSES to shoot the ball. He had 10 shots in 38 minutes tonight, when he should have shot about 20 times. Good lord Miller, we didn’t bring you here to play PG! How easy is it for other teams to defend him? All the coach has to say is don’t let him shoot wide open threes, and otherwise just play off him so he doesn’t drive the lane. That would render him useless. I hope we trade him this summer or next trade deadline at the latest.

P.S. I guess its kinda on McHale to MAKE him shoot. I mean, he’s the coach! Why is he letting Miller play like this? Is it their gameplan for him? Does the staff tell him to do these things? If so, that’s beyond baffling.

Rough game for Love, but only 23 minutes? Man, he gets absolutely BRUTALIZED downlow, as does our entire team. We have no capable big men at all, and any team with even average big men should have little problems with us. We need a capable center ASAP. If for no reason but so that Love’s confidence is not completely destroyed going against bigger, stronger players that just own him.

Looks like Foye is back to playing no defense whatsoever. 1 assist and 2 rebounds makes an otherwise stellar offensive game only average at best. Oh wait, Miller was doing all those things for some odd reason.

Telfair was not great but not horrible. 4 steals helps his cause.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, our bench flat out sucks. None of those guys would be playing regular minutes on most of the other teams in the entire league. I did enjoy Cardinal tonight though. His antics against Bosh brought smiles to my face. I appreciate that yeoman work he was doing. I just wish we didn’t have to rely on someone like him to come in and play consistent minutes to win games. That is a recipe for failure going into the future.

Bobby Brown reminds me soooo much of McCants, it’s making me cringe. Same number, the headband, the arm sleeve, the stature, the playing style. Ugh. Definitely NOT what College Wolf wanted to see tonight.

Where was Sheldon Williams? WHAT DOES IT HURT to play him? I mean look at our other “bigs!”

Bargnani has been brilliant this year. Maybe he won’t be a bust after all. He owned us so bad it wasn’t even funny. Very versatile and I am liking what he brings to the table. Maybe it was just because no one on our team could guard him, who knows.

Bosh showed flashes of brilliance, as well as flashes of being a “second banana.” If you put him and LeBron together on any team in the league, that would equal multiple titles. Can you imagine Bosh, LeBron, and Nash on the Knicks in 2010? Sick.

Gomes did great against Marion. What an idiot he was to force himself out of Phoenix. Just ridiculous. He’ll never come anywhere near those types of numbers again… or the paychecks.

Calderon didn’t seem like he was really doing much, yet still dropped 15 points, 13 assists and 5 boards. Nice game.

It was a travesty what Anthony Parker did against us tonight. Good lord, how embarrassing.

by College Wolf on Feb 25, 2009 2:28 AM CST reply actions   0 recs

Just a small remark if I may.

On one side there’s the criticizm of playing people who can’t play so much that it looks like tanking.
On the other there’s the criticizm of not playing Shelden Williams, someone who according to the reports might be out of shape and thus might not be ready to play yet. Let alone the fact that putting him in there might disrupt the offence completely because he’s playing a position that usually gets a lot of plays called for and he probably doesn’t know any of them yet while Gomes does know ‘m, even though he’s too small to play there.

Don’t get me wrong, if we trade for Williams we should at least play him and I’d rather not have Gomes matching up with Bosh.
Fact is that in the recent past (or the recent draft if you will) they have done their best to making is stronger at the frontcourt: the Love trade and picking Pekovic. If you think about it, what else, in the reasonable realm of reality, could they have done in that short term of rebuilding.
I’m getting more and more convinced the plan was to just continue with the current front court and suck it up until Peko gets here. I don’t like those plans because peko doesn’t seem to fit any “synergies” as was said so accuratly before here. But my guess is that is the plan.
