Guard Randy Foye watched practice on Tuesday with a walking boot on his sprained right ankle. The team's second leading scorer is likely to miss at least one game and probably more after being injured on Monday against Washington in the team's 10th consecutive loss.
The Timberwolves already are missing star center Al Jefferson and swingman Corey Brewer with torn knee ligaments. Forward Rodney Carney also missed practice on Tuesday with a bruised abdomen and is questionable for Wednesday night's game against Memphis.

stupid David Stern
won’t give us an injury exception. I think the league could use a better system to help teams deal with injuries. Sometimes a 15 man roster is just too small to get through 82 games. At the same time, no team is going to play 15 players on a regular basis. Happily, we already have a solution, the D-league. Why not allow more flexibility?
Give teams 18 roster spots but allow them to send players down to the D-league so most players can get playing time. Don’t put limits on the types of players a team can send to the d league either. Whenever a team starts to become depleted they can call up a man or two. The extra three spots might cost a little money, but mostly they will be minimum salary players.
The main problem is that some players won’t be happy to be stuck in the d league. Perhaps some concession could be made so that a player has the option to opt out of his contract if he spends a certain percentage of his time in the d league. This wouldn’t be too big of a deal though because most of the players sent down wouldn’t have multi-year contracts and I imagine players with multi year contracts that got sent down would be signed to rookie deals. The league is already ok with young players being stuck in the d league.
Maybe I’m just fixing something that isn’t broken by adding unnecessary complications. As a fan of a losing team though, it would be nice to see new blood around to break the monotony of failure.

sounds smart to me
I don’t really know anything about this issue, but you’d think they’d want to encourage flexibility in any way they could

I think being more flexible with adding players short term for injuries would help but 18 on the roster would create issues. Are there really 90 more players who should be on a roster. Plus then when guys get hurt instead of replacing them with the best d-leaguer available you are replacing them with the 3 d-leaguers you happen to have. It would bring down the play of the league potentially.
maybe 18 is a bit too high a number
one or two roster spots might be better. Teams wouldn’t have to use all of their roster spots either, but there might be still be problems with teams signing the best d league players and not needing them so that teams with injuries can’t sign the very best 2nd rate players. Maybe something where teams started the season with only 15 roster spots, but as the season progressed they could sign up to one or two replacement players. Thanks for the critique of my inconsequential idea though.(inconsequential because it’s not like the idea implements suggestions made by canis hoopus readers) You definitely have a point.
Hopefully, the best d league players would sign contracts with teams they might get playing time from. Hopefully, teams would use their extra roster space wisely. But, players can’t predict the future and would want an nba contract, and teams often squander their assets. So, definitely, there are problems.

If he's going to be out for a longer period...
… I’d be amenable to signing Shaun Livingston for the rest of the season and seeing what he could do in extended minutes on an NBA court. Even if the answer is “nothing,” it would be worthwhile to do some prospect evaluation in the remaining meaningless games.
here's another option

Marcus Williams has been cut. I don’t care about long term stuff with anyone they sign. It’s a simple matter of having enough bodies at this point.

i'd be shocked if...
… they don’t pick Williams up. is there a downside i’m not seeing?

was the only guy I really wanted out of the D-League after Jefferson went down, the reason being I thought he would look far and away better than any other player on our current healthy roster playing next to Kevin Love along the frontline. And you never know, may be he would blossom into a nice athletic compliment off the bench going forward without having to commit a lot of $$$ to him. Too bad he’s signed with Toronto for the rest of the year.
