What is [Al Jefferson's] biggest weakness as a franchise player?
"I think he has to grow as a leader. At times, he tends to berate a little bit because he wants to win so much and I think he’s grown in that area. The right kind of vocal leadership that’s not punitive and holding things against his teammates. He has to understand these guys have their deficiencies and weaknesses and he has times on the floor when he’s not doing everything he needs to and he’s still growing in that area. It’s a work in progress because he’s young, he’s emotional, he’s competitive and he wants to win. I don’t think he’s intentionally doing that, but it’s more in the context of, ‘Hey, I want to win.’ Defensively, just being quicker laterally."
"He has to get better in those two areas, but he’s so good in so many other areas it’s really me nitpicking him at that point. Al understands and has a pretty good feel for who he is, so those are things you hope as he matures, he’ll continue to grow in and I think he will."

Mmmm, let's see:
1. Grow as a leader
2. Move better laterally defensively
3. Hold ground better defensively
4. Get back better on defensive transition
5. React quicker to weakside slashers defensively
6. Pass better out of the post
7. Seek to draw more contact on offense, especially when his man bites on a pump fake.
8. Improve mid-range jumper
OK, I’m just nit picking here…..NOT!
The truth is Al Jefferson is not a franchise player. That’s a false premise to begin with. I like what he does bring to the table – he’s a valuable piece of the puzzle – but he’s no franchise player.
That being said...
…Stack is really growing on me. I like the guy from what I’ve read so far. I’d love for them to start thinking a bit bigger about who they could bring back next year in a big trade this economic climate. Big Al may not have to be the franchise if they can make a big deal. Here’s the big thinking I would love to see. It may not be realistic but…well, here it is:
1- Work with Washington to take salary + their top pick.
2- Take 2 top picks, expirings, and Foye and ask NOLA just how bad the economy is and if they want to start over. The Wolves could take back both Peja and Paul. They’d be locked in to a roster and they’d be over what they’d want to spend (I’d have to work the money numbers out; this is off the top of my head) but that’s a pretty big package for guys this team could use and I honestly don’t think NOLA makes it through next season with Paul on its roster. I get that he is the team, but I think he can be had if Peja comes with and they get enough in return. I think he, Bosh, and Dirk and the 3 most gettable big time players right now. He and Dirk are the only ones I’d want to see on the Wolves.

Now that's
swinging for the fences!!! It would obviously be a massive coup if there was someway we could pry Paul from NOLA, but highly improbable.

Depends on how you define franchise player. If you say it’s “the face of the franchise” he already is a franchise player because I’m sure if you mention “timberwolves” to somebody outside of minnesota (or even inside) you automatically get “jefferson” in reply.
If you say it’s “a player who can single handedly carry a team with only minor stars next to him to a championship” than he isn’t a franchise player … but then who is.
I mentioned a while back I thought he was somewhere between Carmelo and Bosh in franchiseness. Right now that is.
