I caught only the last few moments of Glen Taylor's time with Sid yesterday, but he said two rather frustrating things:
In response to a question about Mike Miller, he said Miller's been a great team leader, had a great work ethic, and responded to adversity well, and that the problem is that the team's not getting him his shots. To a point-blank question about trading Miller, he responded "No, we're not going to trade Mike Miller." Talked about "the type of players we surround him with" instead.
Answering a question about Pekovic, he went over the 2-year deal and said the plan's always been to bring him over in 2010. No hint of any flexibility to the deal. Said Hoiberg was just over there, and said Pekovic was doing well there.
Other items of note:
* Flatly says Brandon Roy "turned out to be quite a player."
* Recognizes Foye is better at off guard.
* "In a hurry to get us into playoff mode."
* Saw January as a decent measure of the team.
* Next year: "My guess is" pick up two good ones, trade the third pick "to bring in someone" with the skills that we need.
* "I don't think there's any doubt" McHale will be back next year.

* Saw January as a decent measure of the team.
In a 6 month season the Wolves have 1 good month and seem on their way to 5 horrible months. Yet that good month is by what we measure the team. I’m already bracing myself for the “This was a 50 win team in January when we all came together and everyone was healthy” mantra next July and August.
they just can't seem...
…to do something without it coming across as a cheap sales pitch.

At this point..
….I’m just going to close my ears and hope that this front office and ownership group does something out of sorts for them. There was also a quote in the local media about how the team thinks Pekovic is going to be the best center in team history. Granted, this isn’t a great group of players (Rasho is probably the best), but still….
Anywho, I think we’re all just kind of holding our breath to see how they spend these assets in the next year or so. They have positioned themselves well. Now they have to perform.

politics...
What’s he going to do, throw Miller under the bus? He’s probably not all that happy that Miller is not taking more shots, but there’s nothing to be gained from criticizing him. It makes the front office look bad, it pisses off Miller, it hurts Miller’s trade value (not to mention our bargaining position if we are looking to deal), and it hurts locker room chemistry since we can’t trade him until the off season.
January would seem to me to be the best measure of the team available so far. Jefferson was injured in early February, and though we had a weak schedule, January was the last time our star player was healthy. Maybe record wise it is slightly inflated, but there is a lot that can be derived about how the team can succeed in the future by looking at Jan.
This is what I don't get
If we’re going to count our January strech against crappy opponents as the “indicator”, then why dont’ we use post Clippers December and early February too? If you do count all those games then you see a team that is 13-18. That’s a 34 win pace over the course of the season. Which would lead us to pretty much the same position we’re in now.
Let's bad mouth the Blazers some more
There is nothing more gratifying than getting Blazer fans upset. Any negative comment about their team and shame on you, the Blazers are the best team with the best players in the world. Let me know when they actually win something, but until then, the Blazers are just another average to slightly above average NBA team…
There...
…is definitely something bat-signalish about writing about them.

As of typing we are better than 21/30 of the league in terms of winning pct, while the Wolves are better than 5/30 of the league ;-)
So slightly above average seems about right. The bat flies home to its cave. Back to the scheduled programming of building for the Miller – Pekovic era… I watched him a few weeks ago, and he had something decidedly Milicicesque about him.
"Let me know when they actually win something"
Ok…We will be back to let you know when we have won our division.

After hearing what Glen Taylor has to to say...
I have complete confidence in saying this team is going nowhere until he either sells the team or dies.
So True
Glen seems to care more about loyalty than winning.

he needs a filter..
….and his media team needs to let him know how damaging it is for him to be so open with the fans. It’s one thing to be honest; quite another to be open. He needs carefully directed honesty.

Pek
I’d really like to know what the hell the plan is with Pekovic. Perhaps it’s thinking too far ahead to say so, but if the guy is as awesome as he appears, are we really going to end up with a rotation at the 4 and 5 entirely dominated by 6’9 guys? Or do they see Pekovic as like a 20mpg player?
well put...
….he’s just so unknown at this point.
