GameThread: vs. Washington
Washington Wizards at Minnesota Timberwolves, Mar 9, 2009 7:00 PM CDT
Tonight marks a week filled with opportunity for the struggling Timberwolves. Hosting the Wizards at 7 is the first contest in a 4-game homestand. Not only are the Wolves playing at home (which, no matter how empty the Target Center can be, beats playing on the road) against Washington, Memphis, New York and Charlotte. Every one of those teams is below .500, and while the Bobcats are playing very well lately, winning 3 of 4 is not a stretch.
But lets not get too far ahead of ourselves. The Wizards are having rough year with injuries galore, but there have been some bright spots. Two that have caught my eye are JaVale McGee and Andray Blatche. Feast your eyes on a pair of 7-footers:
Wow.

Miller may get double digit shot attempts……oooooohhhh, easy now Mike. You may look selfish.

Foye attacking the paint
One thing I’ve noticed with Foye is a steady increase in FTA since last season. He needs to keep doing this and figuring out ways to draw fouls, even if they are the jump-into-the-defender cheap variety. It will really help offset his roller coaster jumpshot in terms of scoring efficiency.
Forgot there was a game tonight
Losing to Washington on our home court would be kind of like a major benchmark for bad, wouldn’t it?
I will say
that it’s nice to see a young, athletic pg on the floor when the starters are sitting down. Even if we don’t keep Brown, he looks better out there to me than Ollie.
oh yeah?
are they one of the more popular teams? I did not know that

Compared to us?
I’d hate to know what Channel 45’s audience is when they locally b’cast Wolves games.
I hate when people call the NBA "the association"
f***ing Canadian sports dudes do that all the time. Then they say things like “he’s got 2 free shots coming up”
yep
…and it’s blacked out on league pass

they still haven't officially responded..
….to one of my 5 on-line complaints/requests….i’ve called the league office and they’ve completely washed their hands of it. it’s turner sports’ baby now. last year, the league owned it and gave me a free pass because i wrote about the team. this year, i paid and i don’t get shit.

it's a fantastic...
….product when it works. I have 3 games up on my screen now and it’s very good quality. The kiddies are in bed and i have a screen full of NBA action. Next year I almost have my wife talked into getting Direct TV.

yeah...
I got a big screen midseason. I’m planning on cable for the 2009-2010 season. It is hard to watch on a computer screen when you could have it on 42 inches.
that's the route..
….we’re going. the tv we had now is getting a little old and it craps out. i got it on the day of the 41-0 vikings game. i was in the military at the time and we were going to have a few friends from minnesota over to watch the game. 45 minutes before it started, my oldest daughter (3 at the time) squirted a water gun into the back of the tv. It was fried. I made a mad dash to the best buy just off 78th in omahaand i got back to hook up the tv to see the vikes down 14-0.
i’m kind of hoping my youngest (4 now) decides to do the same thing so i can just go out and get a new one.

would it work if you were further away?
I remember a post where you said you were in a “dead zone,” couldn’t get Mpls tv channels but too close for league pass. Man, that’s maddening

hope this doesn't mean
they’re tightening up in an effort to keep the playoffs tightly under wrap.
I’ve never seen a league that hated its fans like this one. I feel like a little kid watching the Twins through a knothole and then getting rousted by ballpark security.
i hope not...
…they have been running some in game content for the TNT game of the week on nba.com….you can watch the game from like 4 different camera angles. It’s actually kind of cool. They put 2 cameras on the 2 best players and you can follow them around the court. That being said, I suspect a large chunk of the playoffs will not be on league pass.

they don't have the playoffs on league pass?
by plinytheelder on Mar 9, 2009 8:53 PM CDT up reply actions
i don't think they will this season

that's insane -
you pay for league pass and they only give you the reg. season?

it's a terrible way to sell a product..
…completely tied into the cable system. one of the big problems with going broadband is that some of these companies are going to have a hard time giving up their cable tv part of the empire.
The World's Leading Exporter of Small Area Quickness
www.canishoopus.com
ah so that's the rationale
they don’t want to take $ away from the cable channels. This is why we need socialism. ;)
by plinytheelder on Mar 9, 2009 8:58 PM CDT up reply actions
SnP correct me here but…
If the game is on tv where you “live” broadcast or nationally on cable then it is blackedout in the regular season. It would stand to reason that almost every game is national in the playoffs, so every game is blacked out.
that's probably right...
…i’ll get on the customer service chat line and find out. i really haven’t thought much about the playoffs. to be honest, with the wolves out, i don’t watch until the conference finals.
