Love is an intense competitor, but I don't see him express it much. And keeping that to himself would be a mistake, as it can serve to inspire his teammates who will soon look up to him as an extremely skilled player with a great basketball mind.
A guy like KG, who so obviously inspires every teammate, is a great example of what Love can aspire to.
David Thorpe at FourLetter lays out which veterans the rookies need to be studying. And chooses KG for K-Love. Heart-breaking

Who Love should study
I wish I could make money doing this kind of pointless mental sports wanking like David Thorpe does. KG is who KG is. Kevin Love is who Kevin Love is. They both can always work on making their game better, but the rest is garbage. Gee, David Thorpe, maybe every player should play in a way that inspires their teammates the way KG does. Do that and your team will be guaranteed a championship (at least it might if you wind up surrounded with two other hardworking perennial all-stars and a strong supporting cast).

Yeah, it would be terrible...
…if Love kept his competitive fire to himself. He’d be less obviously inspiring and maybe have to settle for emulating Tim Duncan.
The same article on rookies studying veterans said Michael Beasley should study Carlos Boozer (hope Miami gets that next contract commitment in writing first), O.J. Mayo should study Kevin Durant (a veteran already?), Danilo Gallinari should study Paul Millsap (I like Millsap, but, huh?) and Joe Alexander should study Ron Artest (insert your own joke here). He did a bunch of other rookies, but you have to be an ESPN insider to find out what other gems he came up with. I’ll be deeply disappointed if he doesn’t have Marc Gasol watching Pau Gasol.
