The Timberwolves still haven't settled on a new head of basketball operations, but it won't be Randy Pfund.
The former Miami Heat general manager said this morning that he has informed the team he is withdrawing his name from consideration.
"I'm moving on from the Wolves situation," Pfund said. "I've got a couple other things out there that maybe intrigue me a little more, either this year or next year."
Pfund didn't identify any of those other opportunities, but he said he informed Wolves CEO Rob Moor of his decision to pull out.
"I just feel Minnesota is not the right situation for me at this time," Pfund said.
Pfund's withdrawal leaves Portland Trail Blazers assistant general manager Tom Penn and former Indiana Pacers general manager David Kahn as the remaining outside candidates.
The Wolves also have two internal candidates in assistant general manager Fred Hoiberg and GM Jim Stack.

Soft landings or 180's?
Which is it for these guys taking their names out of consideration? Either its Glen’s way of giving a soft no ort its these guys looking inside and recoinling at what they see at 600 First Avenue.
I’ll bet a dollar its the latter.

Its a good question
But, I’ll go with the former. I think there may be some guys from the remaining teams still playing Glenn is interested in talking to. I think if he had found the guy he was sure of, he would have made an offer. Anyone dropping out either wasn’t really interested in the job in the first place or realized that Glen wasn’t that interested in him, imo.

I'm starting...
…to come down on the latter side of things. If this is a question of them being unable to properly schedule the process or wanting to keep certain people on board, then I think…well, a lot could still change but I suspect the innards of the Country Club aren’t as nice as we’d like to believe. It’s Rich Acres when most people are wanting (and expecting) Interlachen.

If they were sold on Pfund
He’d be the GM by now.

Ya
I don’t think any of these candidates care very much what the inside of 600 First Ave. looks like because they’re not working for anyone there except Glen Taylor. Might be different if they were interviewing for an Asst. GM position. As GM, I think it’s understood that they’re coming here to do their own thing, even if Freddy stays on to help evaluate talent. You can evaluate talent but still change the system (kind of like how the Vikings changed their drafting/evaluation system but retained most of their scouts some years back—basically modernizing the info collection and access system, leading to better communication and drafting).

Hinkie
How about those Rockets?! I get a little tired of the Lakers bias in ESPN’s coverage, and how nobody there (at ESPN) seems to give any team that’s not the Lakers, Celtics, or Cavs a chance, but how about them Rockets?! And Nuggets for that matter too. Talk about two teams finding success by playing team ball and utilizing a combination of star players, very good players who make those around them better, and competent role players.
Man, nothing has made me more hopeful as a TWolves fan than the success of the Rockets and Nuggets (still wish Chauncey was here). I hope hope hope that the Rockets win game 7 against the Lakers, and that our GM position remains vacant just a bit longer, although I’d love it if Penn came here too. If the Rockets can take LA to game 7, and Orlando can to BoTown to game 7, and Denver can dispatch everything in sight, then that tells me that the Twolves could do the same in 2-3 years with the right management.
