Bill Simmons Lobbying for Wolves GM Position
via his Twitter account. I would probably do the same thing he's doing were I in his position, but since I'm not, I think this is stupid.

This is stupid
But not really hurting anyone. Just what Simmons does.

Like you wouldn't get excited about this
And seriously, how much worse could he do? He’s buddies with Darryl Morey, he already has the Celtics part of his resume down, and he’s made the effort before.
I would be very excited about something out of left field LIKE this...
… But I really don’t care for Simmons about 90% of the time. His interviews about GMing generally go something like this:
Simmons: What’s so-and-so doing with that team?
Bucher, etc: Well Bill, the strategy…
Simmons [cutting interviewee off]: I mean, why don’t they just [insert Simmons’ idea]? That would solve everything, right?

And many of them suck. He just likes playing trade machine like so many posters. This one was already horrible and not logical when he posted it a year ago.
TRADE 1A: Portland trades Raef LaFrentz, LaMarcus Aldridge, the rights to Rudy Fernandez, $3 million and a 2008 No. 1 (top-3 protected) to Memphis for Mike Conley Jr., Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal and a 2008 No. 2.
…
Why Portland does it: I like Aldridge, but you have to admit that (A) he’s probably one of those 17-and-8 guys who won’t ever make an All-Star team, and (B) Oden makes him completely and totally expendable next season. Besides, you have to give up something to get something, right? With Fernandez, the Blazers would be selling high on a good prospect who hasn’t played against superior competition yet. Meanwhile, Mike Miller gives them an elite shooter and a second option at crunch time, and by reuniting Conley and Oden, they’d be set for the next 12 years. Imagine a foundation of Oden, Conley, Miller and Brandon Roy? Now THAT would be interesting. I love this trade for Portland.

He's an entertaining blogger...
….who hits and misses. His post on Nash was terrible but he’s a good writer with decent jokes.

Here's where I see the rub with blogs and NBA teams..
…I think most guys like Simmons could actually do well in the draft. I honestly think that we on this site could do pretty good. We might even be able to make a decent free agent target or tow. It’s the other parts of the job where we would fall hard on our faces. That’s what is kind of silly about his efforts to get hired. He’d be a great PR guy and even a decent personnel consultant but I imagine that’s about 10% of the job at the most.

Some of the Twitter suggestions he made would get killed instantly by an owner
First big Minny idea: If we get eliminated from playoffs, tix rest of the way are half-price and season ticketholders get half-price refunds
Sooo, at the beginning of the rebuilding that could be every year in the Western Conference for 2 or 3 years. That sounds fan-friendly and maybe causes a few more people to sign up, but an owner would want to see a very sharp calculation before he agrees to any refunds. Heck, Simmons himself wrote that the Clippers made a horrible mistake by allowing people to give back their season tickets until short before the season and didn’t demand payment already in spring.
I don't know
It seems there would be a spot for that person on staff. I mean, I’ve worked in minor league ball, but that’s a whole different ball game (sponsorships, promotions, advertising, along with what you mentioned). Keep Stack and Hoiberg around and bring in Simmons as VP of Common Sense so that they make the right decisions.
Also, I haven’t read Simmons in awhile.

agreed....
….there would definitely be a place for a guy like that. We just threw our hat into the imaginary race for the job and our first big idea would be to hire him.

As much as it would never happen...
This would bring in some fans for sure. As much or more than hiring Dennis Lindsey. Plus, he’d be smart enough to bring in smart people to help him.

Talk Hoops has a good reaction to the Simmons Lobby

www.canishoopus.com
I'd take it....
…just for the entertainment value at this point. Although I think we should start our own Hoopus for GM campaign rather than get on his bandwagon. Our motto could be a team of, for, and by the fans. Our record on this blog as been Noah over Brewer, Love and Lopez as the top 2 picks on the board last year, and…well, I think we’d do alright with the draft thing. Now, as for the other 95% of the job….;)

I'll run the Trade Machine on ESPN
Im already working on great five-way deal that brings LeBron, Dwight Howard, and Chris Paul to the Wolves in exchange for expiring contracts and Pekovich.
And it works under the salary cap!
Can't be worse than Sam Smith fantasizing how he wants to get Wade to Chicago to team him up with Rose
Or every other team in the league (or at least their fans) dreaming of New Orleans collapsing and putting Paul on the market. Who then gets acquired for three or four of their scrubs. Throw in $3 million and a pick or two. We might even take back a bad contract like Peja.
you laugh..
…but I’d bet that Paul is in a Blazer uniform by the start of 2010.

I would be happy if Kirk Hinrich is in a Blazers uniform by September
Listening to Pritchard’s latest interviews, he doesn’t seem very pressed to make changes. At the deadline he talked about letting the cake bake, now he talks about “organically” growing and that Martell Webster will be the breakout player next year. And the only need Roy addressed was a backup banger for the PF spot, which is save to say since Frye/LaFrentz/Ruffin/likely Shavlik Randolph are heading out the door anyway.
I really like KP, but Simmons has a point that he is in love with all his players. I don’t think you will see that many moves from your division rivals this year.
Hinrich..
….will be in a Wolves uniform by the end of July. If Kahn is the new GM and Hoiberg and Stack are still around, you can almost bank on it.

Word is..
….that it would have happened this year but Chicago asked for this year’s expiring contracts. Rumor has it the deal could be revisited with next year’s (09/10) expiring contracts after the salary season resets. He’d be good fit next to Foye. He’s also from the Midwest and would be popular with fans a’la Hoiberg.

Wade to Chicago
isn’t that preposterous. Especially if the Bulls don’t re-sign Gordon. Or sign Gordon, and then use him as a chip in a sign-and-trade with Miami for Wade.
Seems too late, just like last year when he was campaigning for the Bucks' GM job
And as his friend Dork Elvis pointed out: It’s tough to negotiate with people you have pissed off in your columns.
Disappointing, really.

There are many better than David Kahn. Simmons would just be more exciting.

that's not simmons
I listen to his podcast and he’s said numerous times how much he hates Twitter. I’d love to have him as our GM, but that’s not really him saying that.
I can’t imagine having the time to constantly update a twitter or tweet or whatever you call it. But I really can’t understand having the time to update a fake one for somebody else.
IF it's not him, they are doing a good job.
Sportsguy33 is the username I have seen Simmons using on forums and whatnot for years and years.
Yes, it is him.
On the most recent podcast (with JACKO!) he owned up to going on a twitterbinge, and that sportsguy33 was his handle.
Yeah – all we need is another guy with Celtic connections trading away all our decent players. . .
Sometimes the obvious is hidden.
Look at one of his updates:
PS: I am inviting Britt Robson to be my assistant GM. Simmons-Robson 2009!
I just wonder what took him so long to launch this.
Pretty Cool
that he knows about Britt Robson and seemingly respects him. Although Taylor doesn’t seem crazy enough to pull a stunt like hiring Simmons.
