Big Al & #6 for Amare?
Not sure if this has been posted but the Boston Globe is reporting that that deal is in the works.
An NBA executive told the Boston Globe today that the Minnesota Timberwolves is working a deal with the Phoenix Suns that would send former Celtics forward Al Jefferson and their sixth pick in next week's NBA Draft for All-Star Amare Stoudemire.
The Suns, which have dangled Stoudemire for some time, fiound a suitor in Minnesota that is in transition. The team announced today that coach Kevin McHale has ended his 15-year association with the team. New basketball of operations David Kahn is looking to take the franchise into another direction.
I guess if you love Amar'e, aren't sold on Big Al's demeanor, and think that a PG at 18 might actually be just as good as the one you get at #6 then this makes sense but even then, would Stoudemire re-sign in Minnesota?
I could see the deal going down with the #18 pick but even then you have the issue of Amar'e's pending free agency.

Yuck. Yuck. Yuck.
So you lose the best player on the team, plus the chance to acquire a starting perimeter player, for one year of a borderline team cancer with shaky knees? Even if Amare opts out (and since he’s due to earn a player-option $17 mill in 2010-2011, I don’t think that’s a given), and re-signs with the Wolves, how does this make this team any better?
This trade is either:
1. False (most likely)
2. An attempt by the Wolves to rid salary to make a bigger splash in 2010 (ludicrous)
3. An attempt to dump the later years of Al’s contract. (less likely, but not surprising, and way more reprehensible)
The really sad thing is that the Wolves would have to include another small contract (Foye?) to make the deal work.
I will be extremely disappointed if this deal takes place as described.
This must be a joke
1. No way Amare resigns
2. Amare makes Al look like Dikembe Mutombo on the Defensive End
3. Amare’s not that good a Rebounder
4. Amare’s not a Pure 5 by any stretch of the imagination
5. This would be insane on some many levels
6. At least we have David Kahn
My only hope
is that the “NBA Executive” is Ainge, poking the team that just kicked his best trading buddy to the curb.
Interesting theory.
I could see Ainge doing that too.
This Week on Golden State: Monta the Monster @ www.soulhonky.com
OMG--it just hit me.
Then Kahn sends Love to Memphis for the #2, so that he can pick Thabeet and start him at the 5.
Just kill me now.
Why whenever I hear a David Kahn Trade Rumor
Do I want to hide from the Internet in Fear
What you people don't know about basketball
is that centers are supposed to be tall. Taller than power forwards. Al Jefferson is tall, but not as tall as Thabeet. Therefore, Thabeet will be a better center.

I'm not sure what I like the least
Trading Love, Drafting Thabeet, Trading for Amare, or Drafting Tyreke Evans
Good God
There’s no way this is accurate. No way. Not possible. Jefferson’s contract is good value, Amare would never stay here, and is a pain in the ass.
I wouldn’t do it straight up, never mind the draft pick.
Seriously, what’s the point? It’s utterly clear that Amare is not a number 1 option on a championship team. Plus he’s 2 years older than Al. Plus, you’d have him for 2 overpaid years and that’s it.
This is complete nonsense. Gotta be.

To execute this trade....
would be an exercise in such monumental stupidity that we would consider the Jaric-Cassell trade the “Good ’Ol Days”.
You just know we are all going to be sad after the draft.
And I already...
have my mates over here hanging shit on me about it. Being a fairly solitary Wolves fan and all.
Australian Wolves fans unite!!
Good to see I’m not the only one.
Would anyone consider trading Jefferson and Miller for Stoudamire and Barbosa? I think that makes the trade slightly more even but even then, I’m not sure I do it. I really just don’t like or rate Amare
I guess this is a long-term gain for the Wolves
Barbosa’s another awesome Offensive Player that can’t play D. I would still not do this since Amare’s a One-Skill Player (Scoring) although he’s elite at this where as at least Al can rebound. This says nothing about Amare being an even worse defender than Al. I think it’s fair to wonder what Al’s TS% would be surronded by shooters like Nash, Richardson, and Barbosa.
My favorite Amare trade was for Rudy Gay. This is a perfect trade since both are terribly overrated scorers who contribute little else.

This proposal makes me sick to my stomach.
I wouldn’t trade Big Al for Amare straight up, I definitely wouldn’t give them the #6 with him.
Talk about getting fleeced!
This story might be a wee bit more reassuring
From the website of KTAR (“Where the Valley Talks”):
Let me dispel these rumors before they start to takeoff as I have received several emails based on some blogs saying Amare Stoudemire is going to Minnesota for Al Jefferson and the #6 pick.
First, the trade would be a steal for the Suns.
Second, Minnesota’s new top man David Kahn might be fired if he made that trade it is so one-sided.
But the truth is that there have been NO discussions between the teams about this trade.
It is a total BS made up rumor with no legs. The Suns are shopping Amare, but more than likely if they don’t find a deal that they love they will keep him and deal with the alternatives at a later date.
So before this trade rumor starts to take off let’s do a reality check — it is not going to happen. It has not been discussed. And it is 100 percent completely made up.
However, there has been word of Minnesota moving Gomes, Bassy, and expirings to Boston for Pierce, Rondo, and Ray Allen . . .
Gomes AND Bassy for Pierce, Rondo, and Allen?
I don’t know – we better get a pick in this deal too. (HOMER ALERT)

Bob Dylan has a song on his newest album (the one that sounds like it was recorded in a Tijuana whore house) called A Change Coming On. It’s a clear nod to Obama but with a twist:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=94n39Gc652g
We got so much in common
we strive for the same old ends
And I just can’t wait
wait for us to become friends
I feel a change comin’ on
and the fourth part of the day’s already gone
….since Mr. Dylan released an album about America being torn apart on the morning of 9 frickin 11 (the Village Voice review was titled “What Did Dylan Know and When Did He Know It?”) and followed it up with an album filled with songs about average folk getting knocked down and which was named after a depression-era Charlie Chaplain movie right before the economy went to hell, I’m going to say his take on the “change” of the last election is one that is slightly less enthusiastic than people who take that word seriously. Lately, the guy has a disturbing knack for releasing albums that hit a little too close to home for comfort.
BTW, his new album ends with the world actually falling apart:
People in the country, people on the land
Some of ‘em so sick, they can hardly stand
Everybody would move away, if they could
It’s hard to believe, but it’s all good
The widows cry, the orphans bleed
Everywhere you look there’s more misery
Come away with me babe, I wish you would
You know what I’m saying
It’s all good, all good, it’s all good.
The Woodie Guthrie wanna-be turned American icon ends up making an album of irony-filled Mexican music about the death of American civilization. Who knew Bobby Zimmerman was a horseman of the apocalypse? ;)
BTW: How’s that for going off on a tangent? ;)

The C's trade has a better chance
of happening than Amare’ coming here. Why would you trade an moderate contract for a pain in the arse? Talk about blowing up a team.
Sometimes the obvious is hidden.
These type of rumors...
are exactly the reason why I’m terrified of the draft next Thursday. We should be able to make a great deal or two to improve the roster, but I fear the worst and something like this is about the worst idea I’ve seen. Please don’t screw this up Timberwolves!
Phx is probably trying to set a baseline
This is their 1.25 on the 1.00 attempt to fake their way to leverage. I find the Boston deal that involves Ray Allen and Rondo just as ridiculous.
Front offices leak what they want to leak and they don’t leak deals for stars that are going to happen.
Glad to hear this is probably just BS...
This deal is SO BAD I can’t even describe it. It is “I AM DONE WITH THE WOLVES FOR THE REST OF MY LIFE” bad. Amare is a poor player, and taking him away from Steve Nash would make him even worse.
He plays ZERO defense.
He is one of the worst rebounding big men I’ve ever seen. He doesn’t block out, and his positional awareness is a joke. Even though he averages 9 reb / game, about 8 of them literally fall into his hands.
He has NO post game. All of his points come on dunks and midrange jump shots.
He’s a whiny, arrogant, prima donna locker room cancer.
I could go on and on. I wouldn’t trade Al for him straight up, and I wouldn’t trade the #6 and filler for him, so I sure as hell wouldn’t give up both He is a painfully limited player that needs to be in a very specific system to bring out the few skills he has. A reunion with D’Antoni in NY, or playing for Nelly in Golden State, would work for him. He should never come anywhere near us.
"I'm gonna make you cry...I'm gonna make you cry and dip my cookie in your tears!!!"
I would stage a Mutiny and be leader of said mutiny if such trade whent down
Add the Fact that Amare would sign before the trade…and throw in LeAndro Barbossa then we are talking…
Starter of rumor backtracking
An NBA source said today that Minnesota forward-center Al Jefferson is not being traded to the Suns with the sixth overall pick for Suns All-Star forward Amare Stoudemire. An NBA executive told The Globe on Wednesday that the teams discussed the trade. But another source acknowledged the discussion, but also said the Suns were quickly turned down. The source added that the Wolves new general manager David Kahn has even called Jefferson, an ex-Celtic, to tell him the trade would not happen. As for Stoudemire, the cost-cutting Suns definitely seem interesting in moving him and his hefty salary.
