Dear God....
This is from Mike Baldwin of the Oklahoman.
The latest rumor out of Minnesota, according to a source that follows the Timberwolves, is they might want to trade the No. 5 and 18 picks to Oklahoma City for the No. 3 pick. The latest twist is Minnesota’s target is Tyreke Evans, not Ricky Rubio or Hasheem Thabeet.
Sacramento, which picks No. 4, is believed to have Evans at the top of its board. Minnesota might feel compelled to move up to take Evans but doesn’t want to give up the No. 5 and No. 6 picks to Memphis to get Evans since that would be a high price, especially since they also have interest in Rubio and Thabeet.
If Oklahoma City GM Sam Presti were to trade down to No. 5, would Sacramento take Rubio at No. 4? The Kings probably would have no choice. They also might be willing to trade the pick to the Knicks or another team, although those teams don’t have extra draft picks.
If the Thunder does trade down and has the No. 5 pick — and Rubio and Thabeet are both off the board — the question would then become does Presti prefer James Harden or Stephen Curry.
If Rubio were still available at No. 5, what would Presti do, draft and keep Rubio or trade down a second time?

If this is true..So help me god..if we trade for the #3 and Rubio or Thabeet are on the Board....How can we pass on that!..Tyreke Evans at #3? Sweet Jesus..

"A source that follows the Timberwolves . . . "
with Oklahoma connections? My guess it that SnP is throwing up some smoke screens, using his unwitting relatives in the process.

I think it's actually referring to a Zgoda blog rumination
as the “source.” I’m not going to worry about this absurd scenario until it happens….la, la, la, la….
On another note: word out of Memphis is that they are going to keep the pick and take Thabeet. This cuts both ways for us, but I see it as a net negative.
It essentially eliminates any chance for my dream result of Rubio and Harden. OKC will wind up with one of those two if Thabeet is gone. It also means that, without trading, we could wind up with Curry and Evans, which is not my favorite combination, though I do like Curry. That would be if OKC takes Harden and Sac takes Rubio.
On the other hand, it gives us an opportunity to trade with OKC, if they want Harden. Presti must know that Sac won’t take Harden at 4, and therefore it’s no skin off his nose (and actually cheaper) for him to trade back with us on the agreement that we will take Harden for him, and give him another asset like 18. We then wind up with Rubio and Curry, which isn’t ideal but which I could live with.

I think you make good points, and I agree that trading with OKC makes a lot of sense, I just would prefer to turn around and deal Curry + Craig Smith to the Knicks for Wilson Chandler and #8 and then take DeRozan at 8.
You would prefer
Rubio/Derozan/Chandler rather than
Rubio/Curry?
That’s tough for me. I’m not excited about DeRozan, and though Chandler isn’t a bad 3 point shooter, having a deadeye like Curry with Rubio is somewhat appealing…on the other hand, Chander is a full sized small forward who seems like he can guard OK…
Tough call

Definitely a tough call.
Though I do think Ebomb’s proposal is better for the team overall. Curry’s better than DeRozan, but if you can turn Curry into DeRozan, Chandler AND whittle away at the front court logjam in one move… I think you do it.

Zgoda is the source
Zgoda confirmed in the comments to one of his recent blog entries that he is the rumored “source”.
I'd like another ranking of Basketball IQ of the top potential picks
after Griffin?
Here’s how I think it would look:
1. Rubio
2. Curry
3. Harden
4. Flynn
5. Jennings
6. Evans
7. DeRozan
8. Thabeet
9. Hill
It could just be me, but this is also my ranking of desirability of the players, too.
T-wolves fans...
First of all, congrats on pulling off a huge trade. Second, if you guys trade up with us, it is likely that you take Rubio and then Sac-town takes Evans, leaving us with our choice of Harden and Curry and you guys probably taking the other one. I think Presti likes Curry (a lot) so you guys could still very well end up with rubio and harden. now thats an A++ draft IMO. Especially when you consider that this is supposed to be a "weak draft and you guys still came away with not one but two studs.
That would be ideal for the Wolves
the question is what would it take for Presti to trade the 3 to us? The 5th pick and….what? 5, 18, and the rights to Pekovic?

He could get a ticket, though
for parking on the wrong side of the street during the winter. The team should construct a home for him just off of Camp Whatever inside the Mall of America. Always sunny, lots to do, hundreds of pretty teenaged girls, and dozens of dining options for every meal.
Can I get that place?
Beats sleeping on the park benches outside and fighting off the toothless hags. ;)
