Would you trade Rubio for Greg Oden?
I don't know if Portland would do it or not, but I'm just wondering how you would feel about it. The way I see it is that each team is taking on a big risk while getting back a player that might be able to convince their fans that they were making a good trade. The Blazers have Przybilla to play center, the Wolves have Flynn to play point guard. Oden is an injury risk but Rubio might not want to play here and hasn't proven anything. So, simply put, would you trade Rubio for Greg Oden?

never trade big for small
Portland values this guy beyond most of the Twolves combined. It’s a no brainer for the wolves, but there is no chance a Blazer would buy into it.

A NO-Brainer to trade a PG with tremendous upside for Oden ???
Considering Oden’s had Microfracture surgery, foot issues, and hand issues and is 21. Generally big men with his injury history don’t get more durable as time goes on. I like Oden’s game and he’s a class act.
The idea that this is a no-brainer for the Wolves is silly considering one of their two best players is a 5 and their backcourt is a complete mess. They’re starting backcourt currently consists of Wayne Ellington and Jonny Flynn. While it’s probably true you generally don’t want to trade big for small. On the other hand- you don’t really want to trade Injury Risks for Potential difference makers.

I should clarify in all fairness.
Given Portland’s situation I wouldn’t do this trade for them. So much of their offense runs through Brandon Roy- I would tend to think they’d want more of a shooter rather than a facilator at the 1. Their time frame is also such they probably shouldn’t wait for Rubio’s development. I know they’ve talked about Kirk Hinrich and he seems like a perfect fit for them.

Your exectly right.
Time is an issue. We just dumped sergio because he wasnt working out. And he is much better than rubio will be for at least a year.
Time is important. We are ready to legitemately compete fpr a title this year.
Rubio would kinda throw a wrench in the system .
Love the kid though.

Im not a wolves fan and im not trying to be rude but ....
But since when is Jefferson a 5? He is a 4, no? And Oden will be just GREAT.
Rubio will be fantastic too. But I would take Bill Russel Over bob cousey any day.

Well someone said that the wolves best player is a 5.
So you could use a bonafide center. im not saying that oden but yeah.

Jefferson's a 5
in that the majority of his minutes played since he came to the Wolves have been as a 5. Jefferson’s effectivness comes from his ability to own the low-post on the Offensive End as ideally a 5 would do. Al converts shots at a 25% higher rate near the basket than he does on the perimeter. Al is actually a more than capable shot-blocker for a 5 rating around 15th in block rate and rebounder for a Five. He’s not a floor stretcher on Offense or a helpside defender in the paint. If you factor length in- Al’s standing reach is adequate for a 5. Lastly- the idea to draft Kevin Love was clearly done with the idea that Al’s a 5.

The majority of his minutes in the NBA have been at the 5
This is hardly a new development.

No from the Wolves
The issue with Greg Oden is health. I like him as a player. His injury history does leave me with serious concerns (Yao, Bynum). I just don’t trust bigs with his injury history.
Where as Rubio is a potential franchise-changer in so many ways (Ticket Sales, Marketing, National/International Exposure, and someone with unique passing skills).
I would do this from the Wolves end...
but just barely, and no more than Rubio.
Each has significant risks: Oden’s injuries and Rubio’s willingness to play in Minnesota.
With Jonny Flynn already on the roster, I’d rather have a healthy Greg Oden than a Rubio that’s willing to play in Minnesota (assuming that each has a best-case scenario for their respective risks.)
The fact that we have a player that I would pause before trading straight up for Greg Oden shows how well the draft went.
This would be an absolute no-brainer for the Wolves...
but Portland wouldn’t even consider it. Minnesota doesn’t have anything else that Portland would want and the Wolves would have to throw some serious talent in with that deal for Portland to even begin to think about trading Oden.
PS. Good luck with all the Spanish fanboys swarming all over hoopus now that you have one of their players. They can be ulta-annoying at times. I think they believe that any player that comes to the NBA from Spain is a superstar and deserves to be treated as such.
I think we all realize Portland wouldn't consider it
They’ve invested two years of #1 salary in Oden and so far have a bunch of fouls and injuries to show for it. I think if injuries weren’t a concern, it would be a no brainer for the Wolves; however, most Portland fans who have commented seem to believe it’s a certainty that Oden’s injuries are all unrelated, and that he is going to be back on the court for the long term this season. This is hopeful at best, and naive at worst.
The funny thing is...
is people like you that just spout crap like this, don’t have a freakin clue what you’re talking about.
This is an excerpt from an article on Oden, I suggest you read it. Link
I’ve spent the last few days reading bits and pieces from men whose work I admire and whose opinion I trust, guys like Johnny Ludden and David Thorpe; and, I’m sorry, I am the only one who doesn’t think Greg Oden is a walking Saltine Cracker?
This guy isn’t Sam Bowie, or Bill Walton. Sam Bowie and Bill Walton had bones that would continually break, over and over. The same bones. Put a little pressure on them, and boom, a stress fracture. Or a broken leg. Bones breaking, because their bones weren’t all that great. Bones and breaking and breaking da bones.
Greg Oden has done this:
This). Broken his wrist.
This). Torn his knee and undergone microfracture surgery.
This). Twisted his ankle.
And, This). Sprained his foot.
In any of that, do we see the same injury, coming back time and time again?
We do see the same guy getting injured a lot.
Some people get hurt more easily than others. I work in the movies, and the guys who become stuntmen can take an unbelievable amount of abuse without seeming to suffer any consequences. I’ve seen guys do things that would’ve probably KILLED me, and then they get up and do it five more times to make sure they got a good one.
People here aren’t scared that Oden has one recurring injury that will destroy his career, we are worried that the guy is the opposite of those stuntmen, and he seems to constantly suffer small injuries to various parts of his body because the guy may be, well, unjury-prone. As a human being.
Hopefully, Oden will pull it together and become durable. Vikings running back Robert Smith suffered a series of weird injuries early in his career, and it sort looked like he would never make it through a season, but then he just stopped getting hurt and became a superproductive player for the last five or six years of his career. I’m not sure what changed for him, but maybe Oden should give him a call.
But surely you can understand why people might be nervous about paying full value for a guy who has been in the league for two years yet has not played a whole lot of productive minutes? If he were a second rounder, non-seven-footer with a similar injury history, would you be making a big stink defending him or would you be complaining that the Blazers were wasting a roster spot on this perpetually inured guy who looks like an Ent from Lord of the Rings?

Excellent Link
A nice Yahoo piece spouting an opinion, that you most likely share, that Greg Oden is primed and ready for a breakout injury free season. I get it, he’s on your team, if he was a Wolf, I would feel exactly the same way. That doesn’t change the fact that he hasn’t been able to stay on the court, and the result of that is it affects his trade value. Surely you can admit that the Trade Value of Oden was at it’s peak on draft night 2007 and ever since that point has been steadily declining. That’s not to say it won’t rise as he stays on the court and remains healthy, just an objective observation on the current state of his NBA value.
What I was disproving is...
Your BS theory that his injuries were all related. I agree that his trade value isn’t very high right now, which is great because there is absolutely no way in hell that the Blazers are trading him.
speaking as a Blazer fan
I would love to have Rubio – but I couldn’t give up Oden to get him.
Please see my fanpost in the sidebar on this subject. Thanks for considering it. – Elgin
Without you out there, we're nowhere here
rubio for oden
you got to be kidding me
what has oden done since hes come into the nba?
rubios going to be a phenomenal pg
i wouldnt want to trade rubio
i would definitely wait 2years if it takes him that long to decide to jump to the nba
what has oden done since hes come into the nba?
You mean besides posting the second highest PER of all the rookies.
rubios going to be a phenomenal pg
He has potential but he could easily be a bust in the NBA
What else has Greg Oden done
He was also #3 last year in the NBA in Personal Fouls per 48 minutes
1. Roy Hibbert – 10.2
2. Amir Johnson – 9.0
3. Greg Oden – 8.7
4. Mikki Moore – 8.3
5. Dan Gadzuric – 8.3
if you have
watched the games that he has played
he shows no sign of breaking out any time soon
reminds me of an andrew bynum
who i say is a monumental bust
definitely keep rubio everyone knows he has a sky high ceiling
he just needs to get stronger thats all
What?!
if you have
watched the games that he has played
he shows no sign of breaking out any time soon
Are you serious?
I have watched every game he has played in the NBA. He has shown many signs of great potential. Him just being in the game impacts the flow of the game. He draws double teams already. If you knew anything about basketball you would realize that you sound like an idiot.
which ever team double teamed him are pretty much the idiots
oh please youre just sad because
you know hes never going to be healthy and
even if he did he wouldnt be in the same realm as of talent
as ricky rubio is and will be in
