It looks like Paul Harris and Jonny Flynn may get to play together on the same team after all, at least for the summer.
After spending the weekend showing off his skills at this weekend’s Cleveland Cavaleers’ mini-camp, Paul Harris told Action News Sports on the phone today that he thinks he’ll take the offer from the Minnesota Timberwolves to play for their Summer League team. Of course, that scenario will allow him to play with his former SU teammate and fellow Niagara Falls native Flynn, who was drafted 6th overall by Minnesota in last Thursday’s NBA draft.
...
Meanwhile, Flynn will be given the key to his hometown, Niagara Falls. The Mayor of Niagara Falls, Paul Dyster, has a special ceremony planned for Monday night.

He preferred the "WOVES" jersey
Harris is a big literacy advocate, so that Sam Mitchell poster inspired him.

Good for him
God knows they need bodies.
The thing about Harris is that he’s essentially a small forward in a combo-guard body. He really can’t shoot well, and isn’t much with the handles. He got a lot of his points inside for Syracuse, something he won’t be able to do in the NBA. He averaged 8 rebounds a game at 6’4". On the other hand, he’s very physical and athletic, and there is some sense that he could be a very good defensive player.
The Wolves are obviously a good summer squad for him, and I wouldn’t be surprised if he gets a camp invite.

Ridiculous length + Amazing hops
He played point in high school and handled the ball a lot in his sophomore year. He’s not great with it but he doesn’t just hand it over to the other team. His strength gives him a good game inside the 3 point arc and in transition and he can hit the catch and shoot jumper. Best of all, if you take him (and hopefully Flynn) out of the 2-3, you may have a lockdown defender. Here’s what DX wrote about him:
Defensively is where Harris really shined, showing absolute lock-down ability on anyone he was asked to guard, and really making his presence felt with his combination of toughness and tenacity. The theme of this year’s NBA playoffs for us probably is just how incredibly physical the games are, and if there was any player that embodied that spirit in this gym, it was Harris. Mike Procopio compares him to the likes of Tony Allen and DeShawn Stevenson, and after seeing him in action in this setting, it wasn’t hard to see why.
This was a theme throughout his workouts and if teams like Cleveland were interested, it’s nice to see the Wolves pick up a UFA with promise, especially at that position. This should push Brewer as well. If this guy can get after it on d and he’s physical and can hit spot up jumpers and run in transition, Brewer may be out of a job.

Well, that's the most optimistic vision
We’ll see about being able to consistently hit the spot up jumper.
But I like a guy who can defend and be physical, so good luck to him. If he can become a shorter version of Stacey Augmon, that would be beyond sweet.

I'm trying to be glass-1/2-full...
….with the backcourt situation right now. If asked what my thoughts are with something big on the line….oy. We’re still looking at this:
1- Flynn/Bassy/Brown
2- Ellington/Brewer/Brown
UFA-wise, I’d still like to see them get Aminu in here as well as Tyrese Rice, Joe Ingles and Jeremy Pargo. Rice, Pargo, and Woodside are all likely points but this team is in bad need for guards right now. I also think they should take a peak at Ingles at the 3.
