The Coaching Search Begins...

With Kahn on the road interviewing candidates, it's probably the time to look at who's available. One group that's been overlooked a bit is current NBA assistants. Here are the top candidates from each team:

(Ed Note: I'm putting this one on the front page.  The list is below the fold and it's a good one from PSR.)

Atl: Larry Drew -- former NBA PG, been on that staff for a few years

Bos: Thibodeau, obviously

Chi: Bernie Bickerstaff -- putting the connections to his son aside, did a good job with the expansion Bobcats

Dal: Only one guy interests me, and he ain't coming back

Den: Adrian Dantley -- been on the staff for a few years, not sure what his personality's like, maybe a career assistant

Hou: Elston Turner -- longtime Adelman assistant

Ind: Lester Conner -- former NBA guard, longtime Jim O'Brien assistant

Lakers: Brian Shaw -- former NBA guard; Kurt Rambis -- former NBA goon and longtime Lakers assistant; Jim Cleamons -- longtime Jackson assistant and former Mavs coach

Mem: David Joerger -- former D-League coach of the year, loses points because he played at Staples-Motley, the most despicable small-town HS team in MN (sorry, that's biased)

Mia: Bob McAdoo -- NBA great and longtime Heat assistant

Mil: Joe Wolf -- former NBA player and D-League coach

NO: Paul Pressey -- longtime NBA assistant and former player

NY: Phil Weber -- longtime D'Antoni assistant; read about him in Jack McCallum's book about the Suns and would seem to have the demeanor Kahn is looking for

Orl: Patrick Ewing -- name to discuss, I think he was anti-clutch as a player and wouldn't want such a guy as the head coach, but worth discussing

Pho: Dan Majerle -- only recently became an assistant if I remember correctly, but if Mark Jackson deserves a look...

Por: Dean Demopoulos -- "lead assistant" to McMillian, longtime assistant with Sonics, and almost came with Casey to MN; Monty Williams -- one of the Blazer fans mentioned him, former NBA player

Sac: Mario Elie -- assistant in Dallas and maybe GS

SA: Mike Budenholzer -- longtime Popovich assistant

Tor: Alex English -- former NBA All-Star, D-League coach

Utah: Ty Corbin -- longtime Jazz assistant, considered for Bulls job last year
