Not Rudy for Johnny, but for Bassy?

Let me ask you a question. In 2007, would you trade the #24 pick for a lottery pick in 2009?

Ok, probably not, but Rudy Fernandez turned out to be a pretty good player. However, he is not good enough to not give Johnny Flynn have a chance. He was drafted 6 overall for a reason- the Wolves thought he was good and because they needed help at the point.

While I like the idea, I think we should give Johnny Flynn a chance, and instead trade Sebastian Telfair. I'm not sure if the Blazers fans liked him when he played for them, but he's improved a little since then, so maybe they would welcome him back to Portland. The Blazers need help with PG considering they only have Steve Blake, Patrick Mills, and Jerryd Bayless, who didn't play that much last season. According to TimAllen's post, "ESPN reported today, Rudy Fernandez is miffed that the Portland Trail Blazers are hotly pursuing Hedo Turkoglu through free agency. Rudy is also dissatisfied with how Nate McMillan played him last year and is even considering going back to Europe after his contract with the Blazers ends," meaning that Rudy Fernandez is probably going accept a trade.

The Wolves need a SG, they only have Wayne Ellington and possibly Rodney Carney, who is truly a forward, and he might not even play next season, he's a free agent. Rudy Fernandez gives them help at SG and possibly gets Ricky Rubio to want to play for Minnesota right away. I'm really not sure whether Ricky likes Rudy or not, but their both Spaniards, so maybe he does.

UPDATE: Ricky Rubio is reportedly staying in Europe for 2 more years, so I don't think I would like this trade as much and now it's not very smart for the Timberwolves.

By that logic

Would it be even more stupid for us to trade Jonny Flynn for Kevin Martin, since he was picked 26th?

by John Doe on Jul 1, 2009 10:27 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Is it then possible

that Rudy Fernandez might be another such exception?

by John Doe on Jul 1, 2009 10:36 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Anyway, I'm not sure if Kevin Martin is better than Johnny Flynn

He hasn’t played a game in the NBA, so you really didn’t know.
Also, how is Rudy an exception?

by KGMN on Jul 1, 2009 10:41 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I'm just saying

that the “6th pick for the 24th pick” argument is pretty weak and arbitrary. Once the players start playing, their draft position is just a number. We can better define them by how they play.

Also,

I couldn’t find the “Both are good trades and the Wolves should trade for Rudy” option on the poll.

I'm trying to establish

in which parallel universe the Blazers would ever trade Fernandez for Telfair.

You’re just to make the Blazer fans irate, aren’t you?

by Auswolf on Jul 2, 2009 3:55 AM CDT reply actions   0 recs

We traded Telfair for Boston's pick in the 2006 draft

Then traded that pick (Randy Foye) to you guys for Brandon Roy.

We exchanged a garbage player we didn’t want for an all-star. Now you want to return the favor?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

It’s not going to happen.

If he improves a little bit, he can become a great passer, a slightly above average shooter,

And overall definitely NOT a garbage player. I don’t think that when Bassy played for the Wolves, he was ever a garbage player. Maybe you didn’t want him when you had Steve Blake, Jarrett Jack, and Dan Dickau, but now you only have Steve Blake.

by KGMN on Jul 2, 2009 9:28 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

Sorry, I shouldn't have called him "garbage"

He was a part of the “Jail Blazers” era. If the Blazers got him back, a mob with armed with pitchforks and torches would storm the Rose Garden.

Hey, Sebastian Telfair can probably be a condender for starting PG with Steve Blake.

Bassy isn’t that bad, and if you want, would you be happier if we add a top-14 protected future first round pick?

by KGMN on Jul 2, 2009 9:19 AM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

No he wouldn't

McMillen likes Steve Blake the person and Steve Blake the player. The same can not be said about Sebastian Telfair.

As evidence, after his first season as Blazers coach, Nate chose to deal Telfair over Zach Randolph. Yes, THAT Zach Randolph.

Bassy is a nice player that is under rated by the league...

But that also means his trade value, and signing value – are way down. The man can’t generate buzz with a trade or generate a decent contract for himself. I think he makes sense on a lot of teams as a primary backup at PG, but they all passed last year when he signed with the Wolves. The wolves have an under-rated, un-wanted, cheap and effective backup PG. The recent draft diminishes his value to the Wolves (almost completely) – which is a shame since Bassy represented a competitive advantage before adding two more PG’s.

I'm not sure you could get Rudy Huxtable for Bassy

The guy just doesn’t have much trade value right now.

This is a great deal

I will not link it to Blazers Edge, because everyone will agree with it, so it is pointless to do so.

Rest assured, Rudy for Bassy has been suggested 80 times over on Blazers Edge. We’re just dying to get him back. I don’t think Minny will play ball though!

No it hasn't.

I can’t tell if you are being sarcastic, but it doesn’t have it on Blazers Edge at all.

by KGMN on Jul 2, 2009 4:16 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

He's being sarcastic.

What we DO do over at Blazer’s Edge is over-value our own players. Rudy for Seabstian is like Outlaw for Jefferson in our eyes. Not. Going. To. Happen.

Although I will say Bassy has improved since being in Portland. He’s a more than capable backup 2 as evidenced in his plus/minus. I’m thinking Portland could get quite a bit more for Rudy than this. Rudy’s a pretty nice looking Offensive player who is a defensive liability. There are probably good Rudy trades out there- this just isn’t one.
