Shawn Marion?

I hope you've all enjoyed your holiday.......

With the arrival of Hedo in Toronto, the offer on the table for Shawn Marion could be in doubt.

Is this someone we could use on the Wolves; someone who could play the 3?  He may not be able to be had for the MLE, but the Raps will need cap space shortly and a sign and trade for someone like Etan Thomas could be done to match what the Raps had on the table.

A long shot, but would it be worth it?

No--

Based purely on stats, I wouldn’t mind him for a year, for the veteran minimum. But if he gets paid what he’s actually worth, he’ll sulk through the whole season.

Or he may have something to prove?

The dude is 31…
So he can either get the MLE for 3-5 years, or do a one year deal and try for a monster 2 year deal after this season.

If the Wolves were in any way a threat to contend this year I would want him, but I think 2010 is the earliest we can hope to contend or give the Clippers our 1st rounder. Bringing him on any sooner will simply give away ping pong balls.

I’m hoping there is a player like Marion available in 2010 or 2011 – a vet who is very solid, has a few years left, and can be had for peanuts to fill a glaring hole on the roster.

Too soon

A deal for Marion makes the team too good, too soon. He makes the Wolves a .500 team for the next few years and keeps the Wolves from getting the last big piece (Cole Aldrich) next season that will propel them to 50+ wins for the 2010 decade.
