Translation: La Penya is Ricky's Priority

The guard wants to stay on in Badalona, but also hasn't retired the demand, nor have his agents contacted the club.

The soap opera protagonized by Ricky Rubio has stalled.  At least that's what is comes from the statements he made yesterday in Andorra, where he reiterated that if he does not leave for the NBA, something very unlikely due to his clause (5,7 million euros) and because it does not attract him (appeal to him) to play for the Timberwolves, his desire is to play next season for DKV Joventut.  This seems to be his priority, but the curious thing is that he still has not removed the demand that he places against his club (verdinegro = green and black, or DKV's colors), the condition that the club (la Penya) demands to restart negotiations.  In fact, Joventut confirms that his agents have not contacted him yet this week.

Star-divide

(This sentence is strage, here's my best shot)  A situation that is disconcerting if what Ricky wants is to stay one season more in Badalona.  "Joventut has ben my home, and as long as I can I will be here.  Now I am only looking at the offer of Joventut or of the NBA."  The player of the Masnou (their stadium I believe) still said 'no' to the NBA 100%, even though he knows that his clause makes his jump this summer 'inviable', as his dad confirmed Thursday.  A delay that, even though it is not his initial objective, neither is seen negatively.  "I want to play basketball because that is what I love most and I can get better in any location.  If I have to delay the NBA, the best option would be to continue here."  Of course, the current tense relations between Ricky and his club, which does not reject selling the player to make a sum of money that they would sell him for pearls (I don't know this phrase), have sponsored that Rubio does not close the doors to leaving DKV and signing with another European club.  "If things continue badly, I will have to look at other offers", he recognized.  Next week a new chapter is awaited, at least the chapter of the removal of the demand.

Translator's personal interpretation: He can't stay with DKV because they can't pay him enough - all they want to do is to sell him to a Euro club that can pay more than the NBA.  He can't possibly play out the 2 years of his insultingly low contract (can he?).  He seems to prefer to come to the NBA if he can't play with DKV (rather than go somewhere else).  Maybe they play hardball and force the buyout lower, and he does come over this year?  I haven't seen any direct quotes that he doesn't want to play in MN.  I figure it all comes down to dollars, so it is another Euro team (which he doesn't want) or the Twolves.  I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Not much has changed other than
it does not attract him (appeal to him) to play for the Timberwolves,

VLT, is this a quote of Ricky or editorializing on the part of the journalist?

I’d be staggered if Rubio’s European agency and Dan Fegan are not working overtime to get him to another European club. They can reduce significantly, or eliminate, the buyout and extend the timeline of Rubio in Europe as incentive for the Wolves to, as Hoopsworld put it, get off the fence.

Meanwhile, in a dimly lit lair, David Kahn waits.

i don't rad that a quote, just a statement by thre writer

In terms of Europe. maybe, though it really depends on what he wants. Any European team is going to want him for at least 3 years in order to amortize the cost of the buyout they would have to pay. That result would obviously be a disaster for the Wolves, but I haven’t seen any real evidence that that’s what he wants to do . Also, though it’s not something I take as gospel, both Real’s GM and the GM of the Turkish team that was being talked about have publicly stated they don’t want him.

Ultimately, here’s what I think (emphasis on think):

1. He doesn’t want to play in MN. I think we’re fooling ourselves not to acknowledge that this is not his preferred destination.

2. That doesn’t mean he won’t play here; I think he will.

3. A lot of the public remarks on all sides have to do with the buyout.

4. Joventut is having cash flow/financial problems, and apparently tax problems as well.

5. They want some money from Rubio, but there’s a limit to how little they will take. I suspect we underestimate how tough they will be in negotiations.

6. I want Rubio this year; I think that’s what’s best for the development of this team.

7. My guess at a resolution is that he comes to an agreement with Joventut where he plays for them for 1 more season and then pays a smaller buyout. I don’t think Joventut wants to risk him playing out 2 years and leaving them with no buyout, but I don’t think they will cut it radically this summer. And I don’t think Rubio wants to play in MN this year so badly that he will play true hardball with them.

Agreed on all points

except #1. If/when the buyout is resolved and Rubio is still waffling on coming over/playing for the Wolves, I’ll change my mind. But until then, between the language barrier, the questionable reputation of some of the media reporting on this story, and the sensitive negotiations with Club Verdinegro, I don’t see a reason why he wouldn’t want to play for the Wolves—at least, no more so than any other player wouldn’t want to play for the dozen or so teams that fit the small market/cold weather/rebuilding categories.

Sooner or later players who suffer from this aversion to particular types of teams realize they need to get over it—not everybody can play for the Heat and Lakers. Especially with the encouragement from their agents, who make most of their money not by the player’s desire for a particular market, but rather the size of the contract signed.

And even if an untenable aversion to the Wolves exists with Rubio (again, I don’t think it’s a dealbreaker), the smartest thing he could do is come over to the Wolves ASAP, be awesome, and then hope to get traded or be desired by a team in a big, hot market that will offer max free agency dollars, and/or a sign-and-trade with the Wolves.

Well, on point one, I think it's a matter of degree

as I note in point 2, I still think he’ll play here.

I didn’t mean that MN was in a class by itself in terms of “places Ricky Rubio doesn’t want to play.” I’m sure if Milwaukee wound up with him, it would be the same. Truthfully, though, there isn’t a lot to recommend Minny.

As opposed to

Charlotte
Milwaukee
New Jersey
Cleveland
Detroit
Sacramento (aka “Kansas City”)
Oklahoma City
New Orleans
Portland
The Clippers
Salt Lake City
Indianapolis

There are plenty of armpit cities or franchises in the NBA that a young, wealthy man would just as soon avoid. The salary cap, roster limits, the nature of the draft, and the fact that there are only 30 starting point guard positions in the NBA and Rubio hasn’t yet proven that he is qualified to displace one of the current holders all are a big fat dose of reality that I hope his agent is serving up to him on a regular basis.

Don't say that

until we trade Love for the expiring contract of Zach Randolph.

Could we put together the all bad contract team?

Trade Jefferson for Z-Bo, trade Thomas for Beno Udrih, trade Cardinal for DeSagana Diop. Who else can we get?

Gilbert Arenas

is still on the books for roughly $95 million guaranteed, and Rashard Lewis will be paid $23 million in 2014-2015 to be a 36-year-old no-contact forward who disappears in big games.

the problem with

“get off the fence”

is that there is no fence for the wolves to sit on, were are in the house of Ricky playing here.

Pigrioni close to Real Madrid: Good news for Timberwolves

The Spanish press is reporting that Pigrioni is about to sign Pigrioni as a point guard from TAU. It means that they would have Lull as a back up and Pigrioni as a starter,

It means no more Ricky Rubio. I don’t see any other European team with the pockets to buy Ricky Rubio
