Ricky gets closer

http://www.as.com/baloncesto/articulo/baloncesto-wolves-suben-oferta-ricky/dasbal/20090817dasdaibal_2/Tes

According to As, a spanish sports newspaper more trustworthy than Marca, the Wolves are still trying to find a way to bring Ricky this year.

According to the paper, there's a 4.6M$ (3.2M€) offer, just 300K short of Real Madrid's, which Joventut was willing to accept.

There are more Minnesota business involved in the offer, and a direct intervention by Glen Taylor himself.

Madrid's offer was reported at

3.5 million Euros, right? So this offer would be 300,000 Euros short? That’s about $430K.

Be nice to see that get done.

The blockade of the negotiations between DKV Joventut and Regal Barcelona, the refusal of Ricky to go to the Real Madrid and the fact that the figure that the club green be willing to accept the termination clause is 3.5 million euros, has rekindled the interest of Minnesota Timberwolves for the player, who chose in the number five in the Draft.
.
The director-general of the Wolves, David Kahn, already offered in July four million dollars (2.8 million euros) for the clause of the player, amounting to 5.7 million euros, in addition to the rights of Ricky for Penya if he wanted back to Europe. Yesterday, the Wolves presented a new offer of 4.6 million dollars (3.2 million euros), accompanied by other small incentives.

What kind of "direct intervention" by Glen Taylor are we talking about?

Because I seem to recall a previous direct intervention of his resulting in the Wolves forfeiting a slew of draft picks.

If it wasn't for disappointments, I wouldn't have any appointments

I don't know where DaniBCN got that...

It certainly wasn’t part of the article that I ran thru the Babylon translator.

Glen Taylor did press the flesh with Rubio’s agent, Dan Fegan, back at the Summer League in Vegas.

And you’re right, not much Glen can do that hasn’t been done.

love the line "rekindled the interest"

Kahn sacked 2/5 of the Wolves starting lineup for the right to draft 5th. It turned out to be Ricky instead of Tyreke, but I don’t think the Wolves will need to have their interest rekindled for as long as Kahn is in the building.

What a crock of shit

I’m amazed it only took 6 weeks for the story to go full circle.

Oh come on!

I’m sure it’s Glen Taylor’s dream to see Rubio in a Knicks uniform.

Only cowards pray for rain.

Think how he feels about $6 million in cash.

I beleive that the Knicks can trade Darko for Blount and give the Wolves $3M to boot. Then they can buy Rubios draft rights for another $3M.

Darko?!?! Look, if Kahn likes Hollins, he must love Darko. Why, just the other day, Kahn’s mentor Donnie Walsh extolled the virtues of Darko: “he’s a skilled, fairly athletic, long big man who can run the floor and can dribble the ball, shoot the ball, pass the ball,”

Yep, the whole Quentin Richardson tour of the NBA was orchestrated to make everybody/ involved happy.

STOP NO MORE KNICKS TALKS. THEY HAVE SHIT WE WANT SHIT REPEAT AFTER ME SHIT. IF KAHN TRADES RUBIO TO ANYONE HE SHOULD TRADE HIMSELF TO HELL AT THE SAME TIME. I can’st stand anymore knicks rumors. They are a terrible team in a terrible town with terrible fans who think they can whatever they want just by saying i am the knicks. Every drunken knicks fan and yankees fan and giants fan thinks by being in NY they get whatever they want. There never has been a hint of validity to a single solitary thread of the knicks story sto enough already.

The Knicks thing is too funny

Not a single comment as to why the Wolves would do the deal. None. NY doesn’t even have any draft picks to give.

The information from AS seems legit though, thats a damn good offer too, hopefully they’ll accept.

yes i know

what did the knicks offer us for rubio

by Twolves for ever and ever on Aug 18, 2009 1:19 AM CDT reply actions

The draft day offer

was pick 5 for pick 8 and Wilson Chandler. Rubio hadn’t been drafted at that point.

In fairness...

…DeRozan was on the board at 8. We could have walked away with Flynn, DeRozan, and Chandler. Or Rubio and Flynn. Wonder if we could have thrown in Rhino or Bassy and gotten Chandler and 8 for the 6? Rubio, DeRozan, Chandler. I like Flynn and am really hoping Rubio is awesome, but I don’t think they play on the same team for more than a season or two, unless one is clearly only going to be a back-up.
