Yeah, he was “promised” by Atlanta at #5 overall, IIRC. It was weird. Not Williams going 5th, necessarily—teams misjudge on picks every year—but his promise was weird, as he was widely presumed to be available easily at #5, and he was a senior, so it’s not like he’d pull out if his stock wasn’t to his liking. I remember thinking that the Wolves would either walk away with Adam Morrison or Brandon Roy, as big men Bargnani, Tyrus Thomas, LMA, and Williams were predicted to comprise 4 of the top 5 picks, so the Wolves at #6 would end up with whoever was left from Roy or Morrison. I leapt for joy when Morrison went #3, and then was blindsided when they made the Roy-Foye swap.
Anyway, I actually think if Williams can stay healthy for a long enough stretch he could stay in the league a while. Boston and the way they play is probably as good a place as any for him to land this season.
Nice pickup for Boston
He had no place here, but I honestly like him better as a prospect than Glen Davis. Signing him fills their short, fat backup 4/5 slot for $1 million instead of the ridiculous $5 million Big Baby is reportedly seeking.
That was in 36 min/game
from a guy known for his offense. Given that kind of burn, I imagine a whole lot of marginal guys would put up numbers, particularly when flanked by distractions of Pierce, Allen, and Rondo’s caliber. I daresay Craig Smith could get you 16 ppg and 5.5 reb.
He’s still too fat to guard PFs and too short to guard Cs. He’s still prone to boneheaded fouls and turnovers, and he still can’t control the defensive boards. I cannot overstate how little I think of him.
As a 5th/6th big, he's a very solid signing for the minimum
I’d rather have a different 4th big than Davis (too little rebounding and is at his best), but a Garnett/Perkins/Rasheed/Davis/Scal/Williams rotation is more than enough.
Anyway, as I’ve told you some days ago – http://www.canishoopus.com/2009/7/30/968884/rubio-agreement-near#18966810 – , Prigioni to Real Madrid is as good as done. This definitely takes Real out of the Rubios sweepstakes.

I was told this evening thats Rubio’s decision is that if he has to stay in Europe, he doesn’t want to leave Barcelona. It’s a personal decision of him and nobody was able to convince him otherwise. So, this is basically about Fegan and Taylor coming up with enough money to outbid Barcelona (factoring that Rubio is willing to give up a couple of millions to play in the NBA next season).
ps – AT-360: only now I’ve read your reply to my post. For the record, I never make up stuff. I suspect you don’t even know who Prigioni is. Already signed to DKV? Surreal.
