Los Angeles Lakers assistant coach Kurt Rambis has emerged as the front-runner for the Minnesota Timberwolves’ coaching job, multiple league sources tell Yahoo! Sports.

Great pick
I just posted on this and I think it would be a good choice. I also like the fact that he helped in the change of the Lakers Defence this past season (see #5).

Rambis
I wouldn’t trust Yahoo Sports yet. Considering haven’t we heard 8 million different things about Rubio. I think the one real advantage to hiring Rambis is the instant cred he brings due to his Laker ties. Seriously where would they get a better assistant to take over. It seems like this is easier to sell to the public than Elston Turner.
Rambis and defense
That was a great article. Makes me feel a lot better about Rambis as a candidate—he knows his x’s and o’s, and he’s get the credentials to demand the respect of his players. He’s been where they want to be, and that’s worth a lot when it comes to motivating guys like Big Al to become a defensive presence.
If Rambis is our guy, I’ll be OK with that. Who d’you think he’d bring with him as assistants?
"Come on Eddie, let's get serious."
Assistants
Did Khan ever say what they are going to do with the current assistants that are on payroll? I know through the draft he said they’d stay on board to help with the draft process but would a new coach be aloud to clean house and start over right away?

I think Kahn never said what would happen with assistans because that is dependant upon who would be selected as coach. So once we got the coach, only then can we start to think about wether or not this new coach needs new assistants or not.
We got Rubio!

Good pick
If all the analysts are right. He was allegedly supposed to be next in line in LA so if we can steal him…that’s great
Favorite Comedians: Mike Birbiglia, Doug Benson, Daniel Tosh, Delmon Young in Left Field.
Flynn and Rambis.
Given Flynn’s background in zone defense and Rambis’ apparent knowledge of how to use zone principles in the NBA, this seems like a good match aside from the obvious reasons others have posted (i.e., Rambis has actual coaching experience with a proven team—Jackson has no such thing).
A very, very good point.
Though a guy may have been a great, smart player, but I want no part of anybody who has never coached before, at any level, as an NBA head coach. Although I liked the idea of Bill Lambeer, as he has proven he’s a great WNBA coach, at least. But I like Rambis, too.

Rambis and McHale
The fact that there is an Anti-McHale page on the Kurt Rambis fan site only makes this more delicious. . . .
As a Laker fan
I would like this simply for the irony of Minny pushing McHale out in favor of Rambis this summer. I believe the Lakers organization has also moved on from having Rambis as a possible replacement for Phil. If the replacement is in-house (and it’s being indicated more and more that this may not be the case), then it will likely be Brian Shaw.
To secure ourselves against defeat lies in our own hands, but the opportunity of defeating the enemy is provided by the enemy himself.
This is just so much bogus hype
I’d speculate:
…source close to Rambis = Mychal Thompson
….multiple league sources = Sid Hartman

Agree "rec"
If this is correct Rambis seems like a good choice. Much better than Mark Jackson who is a yeller and I believe flawed. However levi_mn is correct – so many of these stories are planted by agents.
Don't forget
….multiple league sources = Sid Hartman = many close personal friends = Sid Hartman

Hopefully, a Rambis hiring would improve the defense of Love and Big Al (which needs to happen in order for the Wolves to contend).
What about Rambis as the head coach and Mark Jackson as a top assistant/teacher of the young point guards?
Doubt we could afford them both
But that would be ideal.

Don't Bet on It
Seems unlikely that Mark Jackson, who has refused to be an assistant coach anywhere, would suddenly agree to be an assistant coach in MN or that Rambis would want the next potential head coach as his lead assistant.
Hope this is true...
I really like Rambis as a candidate. Can be a player’s coach that will also bring the hammer down when necessary. Instant credibility with the players due to muliple championships as a player and Asst Coach. And unlike Jackson, he’s paid his dues. Fits every piece of criteria I would have for a new coach.
"I'm gonna make you cry...I'm gonna make you cry and dip my cookie in your tears!!!"
Well if that LA Times report is true....
Let me be the first to say: Welcome to Minnesota Mr. Rambis…Enjoy your Stay…Please bring us to the promise land!
I can't wait for them to unveil him as our new coach.
…in November.
HURRY UP. I’m BORED.
Only cowards pray for rain.
What is Rambis's coaching style?
I wish I knew more about Rambis’s coaching style and not just about his petigree. I have to say that the one thing that intrigues me about Turner is that as an Adelman assistant he is likely very flexible with playing style and can get the most out of whatever his players talents are. This is assuming that you actually want to win of course. But I would argue that this strategy is a good message to send young talent. Learn how to play to your teams strengths. Any thoughts?

I'll believe it when it happens
I’m okay with all of the choices (even Jackson because I think Kahn would make him hire an established guy as his top assistant), but Taylor is at the league meetings, and the team still has to offer him a contract. Does anyone have a link to coaches’ salaries?
