Subject: What to do with Chucky Atkins deal.
Let's assume the Wolves don't just buy out Atkins. Remember, although Atkins is in line to make about $4million, less than a $1 million of that money is guaranteed.
Orlando has a payroll of around $80 million and will be paying the luxury tax this year. They just traded for Vince Carter, resigned Gortat, etc. They might be looking to save some money this year without hurting their chances at an NBA championship.
Trade: Wolves send Atkins to the Magic and Magic sends JJ Redick to the Wolves. I'm not a huge Redick fan but he is a SG who played some serious minutes in the NBA playoffs and is on a one year deal for about $3 million. By trading him to the Wolves and buying out Atkins the Magic save almost $6 million (salary + luxury tax). The wolves get a shooting guard with experience, who can shoot and does not have an onerous contract. Orlando still has Carter and Petrius at SG. (Yes the trade works in TradeMachine)
