Timberwolves Transactions

I thought it would be helpful to have a place where the Wolves' transactions are listed.  A place where the various acquisitions that make up the current roster are available.  This way, we can know when certain players can be traded with other players.  I didn't find such a list on the site; if I missed it, my apologies.

After the jump, I list by date when each of the current T-Wolves was acquired and how.  If people want it formatted differently, we can do that.  I think I covered everybody on the current roster, but if I forgot anyone, please let me know.

*Please note, this isn't intended to be a comprehensive transactions history; it only includes the transactions involving the players currently on the roster.

I added

Mavrokefalidis (Now under K to Olympiacos through 2011), and Hollins since it’s clear that Dallas won’t match.

Thanks.

So when Loukas gets here

Does he take the crown as the longest tenured Wolf from Corey Brewer?! Or is that something you actually have to be paid by the team to be considered for?

Bah, in that case Freddy Hoiberg still wins! Right? Ignoring FO people who don’t do anything more than doctor the team’s injuries that is.

alphabet (as a scout friend of mine calls him) is horrible. we will not see him anytime soon.

No way

The only reason he won’t be here is because he is too good for the NBA!

Awesome idea -- could turn into a handy reference like the salary list

Personally I’d rather see it listed by name, as opposed to date. I don’t often want to look up what happened in 2006 — except as part of my methodical attempt to expiate for the sins of the past regime, of course.

Player Name
Method and date of acquisition
$ Salary cap figure and years left (with relevant dates — BPA period, that kind of thing?)

How much work would that be? The answer is “more than I’m willing to do,” sadly.

by feral on Aug 9, 2009 10:14 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

Yep

I can get that done soon. Probably not tonight, as I need to do a little research for that, but I can do it.

You'd have my fleeting gratitude, anyway.

Seems like a chunk of initial work.

Longer-term, it’d only need to be revised for individual players as they came and went…. Until this year, that prospect seemed easier.

At one time I saw a flowchart that showed what asset turned into what. it was very interesting. I wish you could find that and update it.

by revprodeji on Aug 9, 2009 11:49 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

(Doesn't reflect cap-based moves very well)

That wouldn’t reflect moves like the Clippers deal for Q Richardson well. But then, our previous GM was incapable of making moves based on cap flexibility anyway….

yes. Someone should update that. Thank you Kmills.

As per feral's request

I added to the fanpost a list by player, with some additional information.

Will the Wolves...

exercise the option on Corey Brewer’s contract before the start of this season???
Based on some of Kahn’s comments I think it will be interesting to see if he is willing to commit money to Brewer for a year from now.

by Rumblebee on Aug 10, 2009 4:11 PM CDT reply actions   0 recs

I was just wondering that same thing!

I would have to say no if he doesn’t improve. A defensive specialist could be had for much less than 4M per year. At least one with no offense to speak of could. But hopefully he improves and proves himself worth the money and then some!

by Mplax on Aug 10, 2009 4:30 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

The problem is, they have to make the call

before this season starts, so they will only have training camp to make this decision. My guess is that they will exercise the option; the risk if you don’t is too great. If he develops, then you lose him as a UFA because you were worried about the $3.7 million…

I myself have little hope for him, but even so, choosing not to exercise the option is a risk.

by Eric in Madison on Aug 10, 2009 5:07 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I didn't realize...

…they have to exercise the option before the season. This being the case, Brewer is a good litmus test of how aggressive and certain Kahn is about future moves. The only way we can get cap room to offer a max deal (about 16.5M) is to buy out Gomes and not exercise Oily or Brewer. Of course, if we can get rid of Songaila’s 4.8M next year for an expiring we can pick-up Brewer. I guess we’ll also see if Kahn thinks Oily can play or can be used in a trade.

by CaliWolf on Aug 10, 2009 5:29 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I have been thinking the same in regards to Songaila

but I am having a tough time finding a team that needs Songaila and has an expiring contract or two to trade for him. I also considered teams with a trade exception, however if any of them wanted him I think that trade would have been done already. I have noticed Kahn has said little about Songaila, which has been the case with everyone he has traded thus far. I assume he is trying and perhaps this is where QRich and/or Atkins come into play, but it is still tough to find a match.

by Rumblebee on Aug 11, 2009 1:42 PM CDT up reply actions   0 recs

I thought options already had to be exercised?

Guess not. That being said, I would have to think it’s pretty safe to say that Brewer will be picked up for at least one more season. The lack of SFs and his potential upside combined with the fact that the league has only gotten one years worth of a half-assed look at him, would force me to believe he will be in a Wolves uni in come October. Unless of course he is a piece in a trade…
