Yes, even though the Twolves managed to reach an agreement with DKV, Ricky Rubio may still have hesitated to make the move to Minnesota and the NBA because under that scenario his earnings would be financing the buyout. Yet Twolves fans have still been wondering if it's Ricky's feelings about the Timberwolves franchise that are keeping him away.
Jerry Zgoda posted a blog update recently that says this:
"Rubio was introduced by his new team in Barcelona today and said going to Minnesota would have “complicated” his life significantly and called it a “risky” move. He also said he didn’t see the Timberwolves as a team where he could grow as a player and win championships."
This suggests, if true, that Rubio has some substantive reservations about the Timberwolves as a franchise in addition to any financials concerns he might have. Perhaps the next two years serve as a testing period for both Rubio and the Wolves. Rubio gets to see how the MN franchise evolves and the Wolves get to see how Rubio's game evolves. Even though Ricky has given his word to Khan that he will play in MN in two years, his comments above suggest that he does not and maybe did not have a serious interest in playing in MN this year.
