Free Agency or the Draft?

There seem to be a large number of postings about acquiring our missing pieces through free agency. My question is whether or not we are better off using the draft to acquire our players of the future. I think that it soothes our egos to simply believe that Kahn will go out next year and sign a top flight 2/3 and magically our roster will be balanced and much better overall, but I have my doubts. While the wolves will have a pretty solid amount of cap space next year, I am not sure they should waste it on a FA. Don't get me wrong, if the right one comes along at a decent price, you jump for it. But with the amount of teams all looking for that caliber of player I think we are deluding ourselves with false hopes.

The much more realistic path is to use our cap space to facilitate trades for other teams to acquire desirable assets such as fairly talented players that maybe don't fit with our trading partners long term plans and/or draft picks. It is going to take a long time for the wolves to rebuild the fan base to make the team profitable again. I just can't see them (from a business perspective) spending a lot of money up front on a player to only bleed money on the books. I think they end up going to Portland route and try to build organically. Your thoughts? Anyone know exactly how much cap space the wolves will have in relation to the rest of the league? How many teams will have more cap space next year?
