Introducing the face of the Twolves
I saw this over at four letter.
When Ricky Rubio told the Minnesota Timberwolves that he would not be coming to the NBA this year, fellow rookie Jonny Flynn instantly gained a lot more playing time...As disappointed as the Timberwolves are that Rubio will be staying in Spain for at least the next two seasons, Flynn had to be pleased with the side benefits, right? Not so fast.
"Especially for a guy like me, he can make me so much better," Flynn told The Associated Press. "I would have sat here and learned from him. I would have taken things out of his game and put them into my game.
"You definitely lose something that could have made our team better. But that's the decision he made and I guess we're just going to have to wait for maybe two years until he comes over here."
...
Rather than viewing Rubio as competition, Flynn said he sees Rubio's four years of playing in the top pro league in Europe, along with his experience in the Olympics with the Spanish national team, as resources to be tapped.
If we had any doubts about Flynn's ability to be the emotional leader of this team, this story seals the deal for me. I know it can be read as Flynn just saying the right things, and that Flynn hasn't proven anything yet. And maybe that is the truth.
What I hear, however, is a player who knows that you don't win alone, a player who seeks every advantage to improve both himself and his team, a player who is not intimidated by challenges and competition, and a player who chooses (or wants) the success of his team over his own personal success. Am I drinking a bit of Kool-Aid? Perhaps. Am I wearing some rosy glasses? Yes.
Are we about to witness the beginnings of the best leader the Wolves have had since KG? I think so. After this season Flynn will be the heart of this franchise, if not it's face.

What a guy
The more I read about Mr Flynn, the more I like him. The poll doesn’t line up with my thoughts on the matter (voted Shaddy, I’ll fess up). If he comes across to the team and they accept him as well as I think they will, he may be the leader of the franchise by year end. I think Love is the heart.

Good points
It’s imprecise to put one guy in just one category, and Love and Flynn were most difficult. I think you could swap them and it would still be equally as accurate.
I suppose the truth is I just like attaching polls to my posts because I love finding out what everyone else’s take is (even if no one leaves a comment).

As much as I like
Al and Love, I just love watching Flynn play. There is just something about how he moves and acts that makes me feel like the whole game becomes a slows motion replay. I have to temper myself because the only time this happens for me is with your KGesque players. I just don’t want to be a homer and put too many expectations on him…I just get the impression that he will put those expectations on himself.

Cardinal is the creepy uncle of the Wolves.
This is Chopper Dave's made for TV movie, Blades Of Vengeance. See, he's a chopper pilot by day, but by night he fights crime as a werewolf... YEAH!

Whatever “_ of the franchise” Flynn is going to be, it will only happen if he produces. If Flynn struggles with his shot and turnovers all year, we’ll be saying “I can’t wait for Rubio to come over in a year and be our starting point guard!”
Flynn’s personality and leadership attributes won’t make him the face of the franchise. He’ll need to make some real highlight plays, and will the team to victory a few times first.

I realize that sounded extremely pessimistic.
And I’m not pessimistic about Jonny Flynn. I was pushing for the Wolves to draft him (on the Strib board, though, I wasn’t a member of this site yet) way back in the beginning of draft season.
I was pushing him with the 18th pick, though, before his stock shot up like a rocket. Still, I’ve wanted to see him in a Wolves uniform since the 6-OT game.

With average production
I could see Flynn occupying the role that Bobby Jackson did for awhile, and before him Terry Porter. Those guys weren’t stars (anymore), but when I think of the identity of those early KG teams I think of Terry Porter first, KG second. Jackson was hustle and grit and a never say die attitude, although my referencing him here is more about what I expect would represent the low-end of Flynn’s abilities.

You mean Madsen wasn't the heart of our franchise?

Agree
but after watching him play a couple of games during the Summer league he looks like he could be something very special. It has been a while since the Wolves have had a good point guard and he has a chance to be the most complete point gaurd in their brief history.

If Flynn becomes the leader of the franchise, then...
Love is the heart,
Al is the soul,
Gomes is the rock,
Brewer is the gumby,
Sessions is the sage,
Wellington is the newby,
and Cardinal is still the custodian.

And McHale
Is that dude who’s still sitting in his cabin—whether he’s GM or not.
