GameThread: Regal FC Barcelona vs. Montepaschi Siena
The game already took place (on Thursday) but will be broadcast on NBA TV today at noon CST. Suffice to say that our friend Ricky had a very good game, so it should be a contest worth watching.
This was the final week of the Euroleague regular season and Rubio earned MVP of the week for his efforts. Regal Barcelona went undefeated this season and moves on with 15 other teams to compete for the championship.
As glad as I was to see the Patriots stomped last week, I realize now that rooting for an undefeated team feels pretty good.

Great Idea
If anyone comes across a stream for those of us w/o NBA TV I would love to see it posted.
Only saw the highlights
Ricky’s really good at jumping into tight spaces for steals.
He doesn’t look to finish too strong around the hoop, though. He’s just flipping it up and getting bailed out by fouls that they probably won’t call in the NBA, at least at first.
But it’s good to see him kicking some butt!

My favorite thing
I like that the back of his jersey says “Ricky” instead of Rubio.
If it wasn't for disappointments, I wouldn't have any appointments
Am I the only one watching?
Just missed the 1st Q while at the gym, but came back to Ricky getting a round of applause as he went to the bench.

I watched
excellent game from Rubio. Some great passes over the entire defense to a man going to the basket along the baseline. The delivery on these is quick and perfectly arced. But he might need to increase that arc in the NBA,which will make those passes less effective.
Bottom line, he looks like a guy that will figure out how to get people the ball.
And as someone mentioned after rubio’s last game, he does not appear to be a ball dominant point guard. He brings the ball up looks for a quick fast break basket and if it’s not there, passes the ball immediately and runs to the corner. If the play doesn’t develop well he ends up getting the ball back and then trying to make a play. I think he’d work well in the Triangle, especially if his three point shot keeps improving.
Good assessment
That seems to fit everything I have seen from him. He bring the ball up, takes a second just over half-court to let things set and survey, and then either creates a score immediately or gets the ball off and sweeps around to the corner, often ending up with the ball again to try a different look.
Ricky looks great
I can’t wait to see him in a TWolves uni. He should fit in perfectly in the triangle as long as we can find some playmaking wings. I think a secondary pick-and-roll offense with Love and Rubio would be unstoppable. Those two are too smart and creative for defenses and it would create nightmares as long as Love improves his consistency on jumpers and Ricky can finish better.
What do you think about
The possibility of attempting to sign Navarro as well when Rubio comes over. They work well together offensively, and Navarro is a shooter (which is something we need). I know he left the Grizzlies to go back to Europe, but Rubio may be able to persuade him to come back, I think Navarro would be an awesome guy to bring of the bench to provide scoring.
If he left the grizz
is he still under their controle if he comes back? or would he be considered a free agent? if he is still under grizz controle, that may make it difficult for him to come back.

I watched
it friday on espn360 replay. i have to say he was great. ^ i think he will do well in triangle system too
This is what draft express said about Navarro last Feb. - someone - assuming Grizzlies own his rights....
February 26, 2009
-Juan Carlos Navarro (#10 on rights held ranking) had an outstanding first game against Real Madrid and then an average second one against Tau. He’s a clear-cut NBA rotation player, but after his experience last year with the lowly Grizzlies—losing more games in one season than he likely did in the previous five years combined—it’s questionable whether we’ll see him in the League again. He signed a 5-year contract for 12.5 million Euro this summer with Barcelona, so it would be very difficult to envision an NBA team being able to compete financially, even if he were somehow able to get out of his deal.

Where is Rubio on that list?
I can’t seem to find him. I’m wondering how often they update it. Not posting this to detract from what you’re saying, it’s just the comment that made me go look at that list.

Where would you place Rubio on that list?
I love his game and think it is much more unique that Childress and I think he is certainly above Splitter and Pekovic, so we probably have 2 of the top 4, not bad for a team that didn’t used to have any real Euro scouting. But I’m not sure either of those picks can be attributed to better scouting. Pekovic was the obvious choice with the second rounder and you didn’t have to have scouts to know that, and Rubio was clearly a steal at the #5 (as long as you can wait for him). Here is to hoping that we do a better job of keeping an eye on the talent over there.
