'Daniel' from the comments section absolutely tears him apart.
Players that perform as Flynn did in college and their rookie seasons almost NEVER become good players. If he takes 4 more shots per game next season, he’ll be regarded as one of the top PGs in the game (Rose is similar), which is ridiculous because Flynn doesn’t do anything well.
The T-wolves picked three point guards in the first round, and somehow ended up with the only dud of the three playing for them this season.
Ouch. And it might actually be four, with PG Nick Calathes drafted then traded to Dallas for cash.
I really love David Kahn's managerial approach...
He’s done an exceptional job flipping assets and whatnot. However, I am very concerned about his talent assessment.
The scariest thing about Flynn, as that poster notes, is that he has all the trapping of a player that will be vastly overrated. He is athletic as all get out, he at least wants to be a “volume scorer”, he’s undersized so he makes baskets look much more impressive than they would need to be if he was 3-4 inches taller, and he has a likable personality.
I often find myself rooting for him to fail, not because I don’t like him, but because I am very afraid of him becoming something much worse than bad, overrated and bad.
He said first round picks though
So luckily for us, we only get to compare Flynn to 2 other guys… and hopefully no one makes the Calathes connection in a few years when he is better too…
What are the chances...
that this has been Flynn’s and the FO’s strategy all along? After what transpired with Love missing the game, the team clearly should know the value of getting on the team and how to make it happen. Though it would be too transparent for Flynn to suddenly decrease the number of shots per game post AS break, I would not be surprised to see this happen. I’d also expect Sessions to get more burn as Flynn tops out due to the sheer length of the season, which plays right into maximizing Sessions value before the off-season. Anyone want to post the odds of this scenario happening?
That's a happy thought.
It seems like getting Flynn into the Rookie/Sophomore game would be a silly reason to make such drastic modifications to our rotations and gameplans. On the other hand, it would be nice if your prediction came true for the sake of the other benefits you described.
Odds? 20%. I’m not optimistic.
