Canis Hoopus - Beyond Thunderdome

I put up a Fanpost recently talking about the unwinnable, dogmatic arguments that we sometimes get into here at Hoopus.  I was in no way discouraging these conversations from happening, because in my opinion, they can be entertaining and illuminating as hell.  However, I did ask that we keep them, for the most part, out of game threads.  Fifty back and forths between two people on a topic no one else gives a damn about kind of detracts from the overall game discussion.  Side conversations and Fanposts are great venues for such  matters though, and esteemed Hoopus member Dropstep came up with a great idea:

THUNDERDOME

Star-divide

That’s right: two opinions enter, and one opinion leaves.  A battle to the death Fanpost thread outside of all others where we can make our most impassioned arguments ad nauseam.  We can debate over players, coaching, ownership, the value of statistics vs. scouting, or the impending fate of the American dollar vs. other world currency in the face of spiraling debt.  Bottom line: everything and anything is in play.  Weigh in with your opinion, challenge other people’s assumptions, and be prepared to back up your argument.  I love the idea, and I think the conversation here at Canis Hoopus is intelligent enough to handle it.

We have so much to discuss.  Can Jonny Flynn be our starting PG of the future?  Can Big Al and Kevin Love co-exist (offensively AND defensively) on a contender?  Are Kahn and Rambis both handling our development correctly so far?  Would Crunch make a better Wing than anything else we have on the roster?  We’ve done a lot of talking about these things already, but it’s been fragmented and isolated.  Let’s start centralized, Thunderdome posts when these polarizing issues come up, and see if we can eventually figure out (over time) exactly who runs Bartertown.

I’ll be happy to get things started, but would like your help.  What topic do you feel is the most divisive in the Timberwolves universe right now?  I’d put up a poll, but don’t want to limit the topics of conversation.  What Wolves issues are important to you, or are you curious to know other fan’s opinions about?  Put you’re thoughts below, and I’ll fire up our first Thunderdome post when a clear leader has emerged.

All Star selections: should the W-L record of your team matter?

"Why do we keep fighting" threads...

…are far more irritating than any of the other frequent discussions ever were. Did we really need a third in three days?

The commenting system used on SBNation keeps replies to the same topic conveniently grouped together, making entire conversations easy to ignore if you don’t feel like they’re worth reading. I really don’t see why any of this is such a problem.

Do you have stats to back that up?

Or are you relying on the scouting of similar threads?

I would think that if the width of your reply is three inches or less

You are unlikely to convince your protaganist of the validity of your argument.

These sub plot are even more hilarious when read on a iPhone, where each line appears to be 8 characters long.

Yeah...

When the alignment of your comment is so far to the right that it can only fit 3 words per line, it’s time to give up and move on…
