Knicks want Melo and need help...

Stay connected for news and updates

according to ESPN, the Knicks are close to landing Melo for a package built around A. Randolph and Gallinari. They've also agreed to trade one of the two for a first to send along to Denver, with Denver getting the other. Here's the point: Denver and New York need a third party. Can we take advantage of this situation?

We can surrender our first, but I believe it couldn't go to Denver until the Jaric pick goes to LA - so we're probably talking a 2013 pick. Can anyone confirm that this is correct? So that's a problem from the get go - a pick in three years doesn't really help Denver rebuild. We can, of course, offer one of the (presumably) late firsts we'll be getting from the Big Al trade - but I don't know that Denver goes crazy about that.

But let's assume Memphis's lottery-protected first is good enough to get things moving. What player would we be willing to send to Denver along with the pick (presumably one of our many wings)? And do we prefer AR or Gallinari (I'm assuming the consensus would be AR)?
