I love it!
…And we know we’re gonna surprise some teams. If you’re playing back-to-back nights and you decide not to run with us, we’re going to blow you out of the gym.
I wanna end this first post with a message for my man over at ESPN, Bill Simmons. I heard that on his podcast, he was going through all the Vegas over-unders for every NBA team’s 2010-11 season win totals. Apparently, according to Vegas, the over-under for our team is the lowest in the league, just 23.5 wins. Well, first of all, fuck them. No, I’m just kidding! But then I heard Bill took the under on our team—he said he thinks we’re gonna win LESS than 23.5 games. Well, OK, Bill. You’re my guy. You’re a good friend. But you take it out on the Timberwolves a little too much. You need to give us a little more respect! And don’t worry, that respect will be earned. We will GLADLY show you. Mark my words: we’re going over 30 wins this year.
I just posted this elsewhere, but our Pythagorean win prediction (based off of our preseason) this year is 42-40.
Discussing homerism since 2008!
Does the Pythagorean prediction
predict Wade will miss 6 out of 7 games and Duncan will play 10 minutes a game?

See my fanpost
I used the wrong formula (well, incomplete formula) for the prediction above. Essentially there are some very surprising results, and despite some teams missing guys or simply not playing guys, even amongst top teams there are some that look ready to roll to the finals (Orlando and Boston) and others who might struggle a bit early in the year (Lakers and Miami).

Gotta appreciate that optimism from Love...
I hope he’s right.
What a funny dynamic that is between Bill Simmons, David Kahn, and Kevin Love.
too bad Martell is out for a lot of winnable games early in october may really mean a 5 games difference
Funny to hear folks on here thinking
Lazar, Wayne, Corey, and Wes will make up for Webster’s veteran presence and productivity, LMFAO. The talent drop off from Webster to Wes is huge, same with Wes to Tolliver.
by CrushingSkulls on Oct 26, 2010 2:47 PM CDT up reply actions
It's not that huge in terms of talent between Wes and Webster.
The issue is that since Webster is out that that means that Brewer is probably going to get minutes that he wouldn’t have gotten or doesn’t deserve. Imo, that is the worst part of the Webster injury, Brewer is almost guaranteed minutes unless Rambis decides to wise up and play Ellington ahead of him.
From the Media Guide
for tomorrow’s game, it says Wayne will be the Starter.

Ugh
Laugh My Fucking Ass Off that someone even thinks such nonsense. Is it likely to negatively affect the team? Yes. Is there a huge difference between Webster and other perimeter options? No. If there was, Webster wouldn’t be on this team because the Blazers wouldn’t have given him up for the #16 pick and the pleasure of paying $2 million to Ryan Gomes.

While that is probably true, consider this:
Gerald Wallace is a member of the Charlotte Bobcats because Sacramento left him unprotected in the expansion draft. Sacramento was deep enough that they let go of a young player with a lot of potential for literally nothing. I look at Portland’s roster and say to myself “that team is deep with talent.” So I think it’s not entirely out of the realm of possibility that Portland was sitting on a great player without even knowing it. It wouldn’t be the first time it’s happened in the NBA.
Sam Cassell for Marko Jaric? That's ridiculous! I would never have traded Sam Cassell for Marko Jaric.
- Sam Cassell on McHale's decisions while running the Timberwolves.
Huh
I always wondered how Gerald Wallace ended up in Charlotte after I found out he wasn’t drafted there but by Sacto.
Discussing homerism since 2008!
I don't think Wallace had gotten much PT with Sac
So they didn’t know what they had or had minutes to spare to develop him. Webster’s gotten plenty of PT and isn’t nearly the athlete Wallace is it’s not a particularly analogous situation. I see he comparison you’re drawing here, but I’m not sure it really plays given their individual situations.
Interviewer: Can you understand why teams value potential ahead of experience and accomplishment in the draft? Wes Johnson: "Yeah. I understand. It’s the youngness of everything – older guys like young women, so it’s the same way."
Webster's a pretty good athlete.
And Wallace doesn’t rely so much on elite athleticism as his insane tenaciousness.
But we’ll see how it plays out. Jermaine O’Neal is another player who was nailed to the bench in Portland before breaking out and becoming a big star in Indianapolis.

In addition...
You sound like a mean guy with the LMFAO bit.

Sorry
Didn’t mean to come across like that, I’m just bummed about Martell being out. I’m hoping Wes steps it up, but I just don’t have faith in our other wings

It's a good time
to be baptized. Just wait and see.

No prob
Apparently I’m calling more Ts this year too. I’ll swallow the whistle.

So because Portland didn't believe he'd be good
he’s not good and won’t ever be good? Sorry, didn’t mean to come across as being a dick, I just don’t believe, at least at this point, that any of our other wings can come even close to affecting an NBA game on both ends as much as Martell does. I think Wes has a shot, he probably just needs to be more assertive, but at this point he looks like a one dimensional shooter that can play some D.

Its called learning
Klove has proved to me that he can get better. I am not a love nut but at the same time I cant sit here and say that he has not improved. I like the fact that he has two post moves instead of just one. His jump shot is money
Webster being hurt is a major letdown.
I hear what you’re saying. He seemed like our only SG that had the dribbles to be really aggressive on offense. Ellington had a nice game in his stead, but we’re on shaky ground again all of a sudden.
by fanslaststand on Oct 26, 2010 11:01 PM CDT via mobile up reply actions
Fair enough
My main argument is more that all of those guys are capable of doing some of what Webster does and compensating for most of his production.

Great Stuff
Way to go Kevin!!! Have to like the attitude and go to see him step up and assert himself. Looks like we may have a new team leader…
Don't think I don't see you Mano!

Just saw Yahoo’s new boxscore format. Great if you’ve got a 72-inch monitor, I guess.

The Heat are missing Beasley...

30 points in the first half
and they’re thinking of breaking the Bulls 72-win season record! Cue Nelson Muntz

Heat have to play 82 Game 7s this year
That Boston team and crowd is jacked up.

I'm sure Miami's better than they looked tonight
but they looked very, very beatable.
Holding my breath until the season starts.
They still could have won that game easily.
Lebron looks like a 100/100 right now. Entering his prime. They’ll win some games.

Now that Klove has believes in the team instead of just himself
I can become a fan of his. BTW Boston was jacked-up and wade was rusty as hell. and the heat only lost by 8 points. The only way they do not win the title this year is because stern does not want them to.
Seems KLove has just taken ownership of this team....
Excellent.
I think this is the first time in history one man managed to destroy an entire city by himself. Even the Enola Gay had a flight crew.
it bodes well
for team chemistry. That type of F’em attitude and confidence will go a long way to creating faith amongst the team. Always good for the on-court product.

I just love
that Love told some his media guys to shove it. How important was Team USA for Love’s development and maturity this year? Super important. He found there championship level role models in the players and coaches, and that’s really opened up everything for him. Suddenly he seems to buying into completely (and flourishing in) Rambis’ system, he’s getting all of his guys together and supporting them (guys such as Beasley), and he’s starting to step up and take the heat for his guys (like by telling Simmons to shut up). I like it. Now what’s it’s going to take to get him in the All-Star three point shooting contest this year?

I feel really feel old that KLove wasn't even born
when the song was made that he named his blog after and it was really, really cutting edge in 1980.
