11 Things You Did Not Know About the Memphis Griz
I think by now we all realize that Zach Randolph is the Mama Griz, but what does that make Hasheem Thabeet? More true facts about Memphis after the jump....
- Hasheem Thabeet is Swahili for "if I can't put the ball in the hole, you can't either."
- Grizzlies Tony Allen, Darrell Arthur and Xavier Henry all have last names that are also first names.
- The O.J. in O.J. Mayo stands for Ovinton J'Anthony.
- Marc Gasol's full name is Marc Gasol i Sáez. Pau Gasol's full name is Pau Gasol i Cordoba. They are not in fact related, but share a deep appreciation for fine Corinthian leather and scruffy beards.
- At 3.022 lbs per vertical inch, Hasheem Thabeet is a regular Pekovic compared to Corey Brewer's 2.32 lbs per vertical inch. Thabeet, however, is a decidedly inferior goat wrangler.
- Hamed Haddadi's real name is حامد حدادی, which may appear on your monitor as a series of boxes, each of which is working to develop a nuclear bomb.
- Haddadi is from Ahvaz, a provincial capital which is still recovering from the Mongol invasion of 1391.
- Rudy Gay is not. What he is not I'm not sure — I didn't ask.
- Xavier Henry went to that other college in Kansas, the one Michael Beasley didn't go to.
- Oklahoma State's Tony Allen is in his sixth year, and has already made more money than all the Canis Hoopus regular posters' lifetime earnings combined.
- Venezuelan native Greivis Vasquez has endorsed Republican Bob Ehrlich in the Maryland governor's race. You have my permission to make fun of his name.
These are mostly true facts but in honor of today's Rally to Restore Sanity, there are some truthy ones as well.

The only thing I really need to know about the Grizz is
that they beat the Dallas Mavericks last night, and the Mavericks have been
together a heck of a lot longer than we have and have a couple of (arguably)
superstars. We’d better not go into this too casually. We need to give the fans
a reason to come to Target Center when we get back. I’m tired of the put-downs
of the team, the management, and the city. It’s time to get on the map.
Wolves, it's time to "switch the flip".
