I know you guys just tense up and become frightened whenever there is a post about Mr. Rubio. Well I'm his biggest fan. But being the youngin' that I am, I just learned a frightening fact.
If a drafted player doesn't show up for three years, they fall out of the current CBA's rule of not having to honor the rookie contract scale. So come next year, if Ricky isn't in a T'Wolves jersey. The 2012-2013 season, Ricky would become a Euro Rights player without any type of structured contract. Whatever cap space we have left, or the Mid-Level Exception could be used toward's Ricky's services. He could be offered anywhere between 3-5 years and from 1-16 million dollars. I'm sure plenty of you know this, but I'm young, and just learned this. I don't know if this is the reason that Ricky is "holding out" or if it's something else. But it's a cause for concern.
Remember when the Bucks drafted Yi Jianlian, and there was much bellyaching about whether not the Chinese player would report to Milwaukee? A year later, Yi was later traded to a team more to his liking, in New Jersey. His hard-bargaining agent was Dan Fegan -- who also represents Rubio.
This one doesn't worry me much, but knowing Fegan, he gets what he wants, and he gets his clients what they want. I don't think La Pistola playing in Minnesota is the problem. I think he's being a stuck-up kid who thinks it's all about the money. If he isn't wearing a No.6 or No.9 Wolves jersey opening night next year. The contract situation may be the reason why. This coming from his biggest fan, is really bothersome and is keeping me from getting a good night's sleep. But as for now, he remains a YouTube Legend and a Minnesotan's Dream.
