Kings = McGrady?
The Sacramento Kings have reached an agreement in principle with the Houston Rockets on a trade that will swap Kevin Martin(notes) for Tracy McGrady, league sources told Yahoo! Sports.
Along with Martin, the Kings will send Sergio Rodriguez, Hilton Armstrong(notes) and Kenny Thomas(notes) to the Rockets. Joey Dorsey(notes) and Carl Landry will go to the Kings.
Of course it is by Adrian Wojnarowski, Yahoo! Sports,
Is this a better destination than NY or Chicago?

I deleted mine...
….cuz yours has more details in it =)
Sick move by the Kings if this goes through. Massive clearing of the books by getting rid of a player I can’t believe they honestly wanted to keep, plus they get Carl Landry.
It’ll be interesting how their frontcourt works out now.
Maybe the Rockets decided they couldn't afford him...
They definitely hurt themselves for the rest of the year. He’s their only source of scoring in the post.
They’re also banking a lot on Yao returning healthy….I don’t know about that
This from SacTown Royalty.
Landry is not a scrub. He shoots 61% in the paint. He shoots nearly 85% from the line. His only negatives are really defense and probably great post defense. And, the guy is making 3 million a year. Al Jefferson gets paid 4 times more to do basically be a slightly better version of Landry.

Houston GM probably decided
odds of making the playoffs at this point is probably less than 50-50, and even if they do, they are looking at Lakers or maybe Denver in the 1st round…better to get a lottery pick in what looks to be about a 15 player deep draft.
isn't the pick swap from NY and first rounder
in 2011 and 2012, respectively? Didn’t think they got another pick this year.

Glad
I don’t want McGrady to go to NY and give them all of that cap space. I want to watch them suffer this summer.
I'm kind of hoping the collapse of this deal will give us a last minute shot at Ty Thomas
This has to put the Knicks is FML mode…
Ty and Darko
I don’t think there is any chance we would get them both at the dead line.
Did you see Zgoda said that Kahn plans to return to Washington after visiting with Milicic Thursday to scout Thursday’s night Syracuse-Georgetown game featuring Wes Johnson and Greg Monroe?
I like that he is out there and putting in the extra work and not just sitting at home watching tapes.
yea he’s gonna try to see every top 20 or so player at least once, some more.

Ok, here's what I've figured out so far
The Knicks badly want in on this so they don’t end up with nothing, and ESPN’s writers seem confident they’ll get McGrady in the end.
What it’ll take is the Knicks meeting the Rockets’ demands.
So what I think this is, is Darell Morey’s way of forcing the Knicks to give up Jordan Hill and/or the draft picks they weren’t willing to give up before. Not bad, if it works.
The beauty of this manoeuvre is that the Kings and Rockets
don’t need the Knicks at all.
It is exceptionally leveraging.
Won't someone think of the ping pong balls?
Kurt Rambis - stop this insanity!
I would guess that
Leveraging is exactly what the Rockets are doing here, they want the Knicks to give in and give them Jordan Hill (who would help replace Landry’s inside presence), and if they can get Martin on top of it that’s a bonus.
They'll get him.
The deal stumbling block has been the Rockets list of demands.
1. Hill
2. Right to swap 2011 1st round picks
3. 2012 1st round pick
That is steep and most of that is to get someone to take Jeffries off the Knicks hands. The Knicks insisted on top 10 protection for the swap and 2012 pick. The Rockets want no protection on the 2012 pick.
Every NYK egg is now in the basket of clearing Jeffries to land LeBron, Bosh, etc. They will have only Toney Douglas to show for 4 consecutive first rounds. There is no Plan B.

And man, did that every pay off for them
Jordan Hill and not one, but two draft picks for Jeffries. That’s three times what New York was willing to surrender before the Kings got involved.
All or nothing for the Knicks
If they get a couple big time FAs, the draft picks don’t matter that much and probably have little value…however, if they get shutout, this deal will look terrible
Landry
is really, really good. Not an All-Star, but really really good. So, it’s not just expirings. Although maybe Kings will just let Landry walk. But yes, not a lot for Kevin Martin. Although if Martin gives you efficient offense so does Landry.
If that's indeed how it ends up
I think it shows how little motivation the Wolves front office has to spend money right now. It’s not like Houston is any less of a rival to Sacto than the Wolves are. Minnesota could have traded Gomes, Sessions, Brewer, and Blount for the same package the Kings sent to the Rockets, and even thrown in a later first-round pick.
But they didn’t.
They Might as well...
Trade Big Al, since they are not willing to spend a little to bring in legit talent. 10 Mil. is not alot to pay someone who could be your best or 2nd best player. I’m really sick of this crap. They blew it with KG so I guess we shouldn’t be surprised here. McCants, Foye, Brewer, Love, and Flynn. 1 good pick out of 5 that’s how we draft. If Kahn doesn’t do something Major by openning day next season, I’m Done.
So ultimately the price for Tyrus Thomas
is Acie Law and Flip Murray.

Eh
Who would we have traded? I would have loved having Tyrus on our team (I’m probably too in favor of high-upside reclamation projects), but I just don’t see our team having the proper roster makeup for a similar trade.
I’d also assume that we’d like keeping our 1st rounder and not have to deal with trading anything of even remote value for a guy that would likely get a raise or leave. I’d probably advocate something like a few non-rotation guys (maybe Hollins also) and a 2nd rounder or two, but otherwise I wouldn’t be throwing anything at him. I dunno who said it here, but I agree with whomever said they’d only take him essentially for free (or for as little as possible).
Well, Ty THomas is better than anything we'll get with the Utah pick
And probably with the Charlotte pick to. So I think if we would have offered say, Ryan Gomes and one of those picks, it’s a done deal. Especially with the Knicks so preoccupied trying to get the McGrady trade back on the table.
I’m not sure Thomas is a reclamation project though. He’s played very very well this year. His coach just hates him, and well…..Del Negro’s not exactly a high reputation guy as a coach.
I agree with the Utah pick assertion
Ty is phenomenally talented and has more upside than most young players out there. For this reason I’d love to have him; believe me when I say I love the idea of buying low on young talent at a discount. But I feel far more secure knowing that we will either keep the player drafted with that or that we’ll use it in a trade to move up or in another more reliable trade.
I also suppose that he’s not quite in full “reclamation mode,” but he’s had a history of being mishandled and has a poor attitude. He also isn’t nearly where you’d like him to be after being in the league this long. Some may point to Josh Smith as a sign of hope, but even with his game’s flaws he was still producing at a high level consistently. Even with the jerking around by coaches, Ty still is too inconsistent and stubborn.
This isn’t to say that a change of scenery and proper handling won’t do him good, or that he won’t just “get it” at some point. If push came to shove, I’d still be okay if a trade for him had happened. I just don’t put a lot of faith in the chance that we’d be able to sign him for a worthwhile salary or that we’d even keep him at all. Throw in that he’s so flighty and unpredictable, and I would just rather let another team give up its assets to deal with the upcoming contract decision.
