i'm sincerely excited to see him play
It’s crazy, and I’ll almost certainly end up disappointed. But GO DARKO!
Any idea as to..
whether League Pass broadband will show our broadcast? It’d be a bummer if they went with OKC’s.
It had better
we’re the second estate.
"Never make predictions, especially about the future." Casey Stengel
Is this also an actual HD signal?
I now know, after autoscanning my TV, that channel 45 has a high-def signal at least for some shows. It’s at 45.1 over the air, or on Comcast boxes it’s 439 in Minneapolis or 238 in St. Paul. (For my no-cable-box thifty special it’s at channel 7.2. Whatever.)
But is it an HD picture? Channel 45’s always had an analog signal and a digital one for me. Is this third one actual high def??
"It has come to the editor’s attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission."
Nope. Clean signal, nothin' new. Ah well.
"It has come to the editor’s attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission."
I'm trying to post some questions
at the website, but they say they are sent and then dont show up
Must be scandalous questions
because the moderator is not allowing them through (Jon Bellow or whatever his name is.)

Scandalous questions? Come on
You’re telling me that my “Is Nate Jawai paying for his food bills by male stripping on the side?” question is scandalous? The people deserve to know!
About half of mine made it.
Asked about the D-league, whether the Wolves will add any stat-crunching analysis to their scouting approach, broadcast HD signals….

Could we be the one's to hold KD below 25?

You never know he could get injured early in the game.

He's got 7 points in 6 minutes
So unless he goes out before halftime, he’s got 25 wrapped up.
Glen wants to answer "Who has impressed you most?" questions.
PR emptiness.
"It has come to the editor’s attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission."
I just asked why I didn't bet more than $50 on the Thunder to cover.
Bet it gets answered?

Someone should ask Glen
if he likes Korean dishes.
On it. Asked under another name.
I think they already blackballed me for asking questions with more than one clause to the sentence.
"It has come to the editor’s attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission."
Who just shot the airball from the left baseline? Gomes?
"It has come to the editor’s attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission."
He's worth like a billion dollars
I think somebody else is typing for him
I was going to ask him
how much he is worth after the market took a crap on him.
Then I was going to ask him if he would let a college kid invest his money for him.
If what's his name and who? ate up the Wolves recently
What will Durant do to them?
"Never make predictions, especially about the future." Casey Stengel
This is where Corey Brewer is meant to be our defensive guy
He matched up well with Durant last time, though I didn’t see it.
"It has come to the editor’s attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission."
Flynn just turned it over...
and could’ve cut off Green going the other way, but pouted instead. I think he’ll be on the bench for quite a while..
If Jonah doesn't start letting some of my questions through
I’m gonna start asking if Glen preferred Mike Trudell over Jonah Ballow…
Love for three.
When the defense leaves you that alone, you have to take that.

Dude is a legit "big"
"It has come to the editor’s attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission."
I just changed my name to Jonah Ballow
and sent in: I don’t know how to moderate a discussion that gets significant questions answered.
Change it to Mike Trudell
"It has come to the editor’s attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission."
Guys, you can't really think...
….Glen Taylor is going to answer hardcore salary cap questions or things like that. I mean, if you guys are asking him the kind of questions you ask here, he’d have to write a 5,000 word essay to answer it, and you’d probably just try to argue it with him anyway
Sample question:
The owners have presented a number of aggressive CBA stances, but have not mentioned the D-league as far as I know. Will the owners want to pursue any more movement toward a true minor-league system?
Yeah, that’s SO hard to answer. He’d better answer this one instead:
Mr Taylor, I’ve been really impressed with Mr Kahns willingness to work hard at building this team. What else has impressed you about Mr Kahn?
"It has come to the editor’s attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission."
It's kinda like a politician at a town hall
They’re not gonna answer any of the wonky questions that actually matter. It’s just gonna be canned questions like “I love what you’re doing around here! How can I help you accomplish your goals to continue to show my love for America!” or “Why do our competitors hate America so much, and how can I help you?”
"Why do the Oklahoma City Thunder hate America so much?"
"It has come to the editor’s attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission."

"Never make predictions, especially about the future." Casey Stengel
My questions started out as easy
and have gone to about as basic as I can make them without sounding like a kindergartener.
Perhaps the team does not expect informed fans,
but while I’m willing to be reasonably succinct, I’m not going to act like a moron in order to participate in someone’s bland-as-possible PR.
This is the internet. They need to expect reasonably intelligent fans.
"It has come to the editor’s attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission."
My latest question
The quality of the Wolves’ weekly coverage on Timberwolves.com has dropped signifcantly since Mike Trudell left. Is there any way this will come back in the near future?
Mine's Ryan Hollins sucks,
haven’t gotten through yet though.
by Bad News Wolves on Feb 21, 2010 6:31 PM CST up reply actions
Don't worry
My next question is soon to be:
Do you regret letting Mike Trudell go now that you have seen what Jonah Ballow has brought to the team? Was it really worth the salary savings?
Ha!
He answered it.
"It has come to the editor’s attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission."
Now he is sending questions through
that have been asked multiple times already…
OKC
has a great defense. They are really long and rangy on the perimeter with Thabo, Westbrook, and Durant. Kind of a model for the Wolves if we keep Love and Jefferson together. Surround them with really long, rangy players on the perimeter. We’ve got Brewer and that’s it.

Not on the boards he can't
Green’s rebounding rate is not so good. As a power forward it’s a problem.
"It has come to the editor’s attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission."
I actually saw Howard make a 12 foot face up jumper today
I was stunned. The guy’s offense has like, tripled in the last two months
Ah, on defense?
I don’t see it. I think it’s the other three guys that really make their defense tick. He can stay with quicker 4’s I guess, but I agree with Feral that he does more harm than good as a 4.
by Rascal Flatts on Feb 21, 2010 6:36 PM CST up reply actions
82games says....
By position, he’s a very effective defender at the three (opp. PER 11.3) and pretty bad (oppsing PER 20.4) at the four.
The comparison to Ryan Gomes is there, in rough outline.
"It has come to the editor’s attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission."
Thunder are the penultimate "team" team
The whole is far more than the sum of the parts. Because individually, Durant is the only guy that blows you away when you look at the stats. But as a team, they’re 3rd in rebounding, 5th in opponents’ ppg, and are currently the fth seed in the playoffs, ahead of the Spurs, Suns and Blazers.
So I mean, if you want to get on one of their guys for not being a good whatever, then fine. But it’s very clear what they do is working, and the players they have fit together correctly to make it work.
Penultimate?
They’re the second-to-last “team” team?

It just has to be a really simple question that you don’t care about the answer to…
Darko
Out of shape, yes. But, he is basketball smart. Got in the right spot on O to open passing lanes. Made some good passes, too. He may be a better passing big man than Al — I know, sample size = 4 minutes. Who knows? At least he’s not Stojko!

On that block by Al? Yeah, that was a nice play.
"It has come to the editor’s attention that the Herald-Leader neglected to cover the civil rights movement. We regret the omission."
Yeah
the block was the icing, there was some great cover on earlier penetrations, and jump outs on the resultant kickouts, and then Jefferson with the final cover of Love’s man when Love stopped the penetration.
I had the same thought.
Like, team ball. Was it Damien closing out on the shooter in the left corner?

The protections on it were set up for it to turn into a 2nd rounder if not relinquished within a set number of years. Given our prolonged losing, it wouldn’t have been a 1st rounder. (Not that this absolves McHale, unless he was planning on building a lottery team for 7 straight years.)

Odds are that he would’ve gone to OKC though, so we would’ve had a shot at Harden and Rubio.

Our PG play
Flynn/Sessions are young, but I am not seeing much lately from either. Flynn scores cause he shoots a lot. But, no distribution and bad D for both. Do either have 10+ assists in a game this year? I’d rather see that than Jonny for 30 (or Sessions for 41 like he had last year).
Session had a 20-assist game early on with the Bucks, didn't he?
The scheme seems to be resulting in assists spread around, is the thing.

Stop swiping when you go up to challenge shots! You make yourself about a foot shorter by doing this! Go straight up dude!
Yup
And this isn’t a hard thing to correct. I can’t believe that the staff hasn’t worked with him on simply going up straight to challenge shots. Swatting requires impeccable timing. He’d deflect so many more shots by just going straight up.

Who was Love pointing to?
When Jefferson was facing the bucket, and doubled, Love was pointing out to the top of the key (off camera), but Jefferson just decided to force it. I don’t know if there was some other option. It does seem that very few players ever cut to the basket when Jefferson has it on the block. Whether that’s because it’s futile, Jefferson doesn’t want it, or just laziness, I don’t know.

Just because we have 12 million this year doesn’t mean we spend it this year no matter what. The target year for being competitive is 2012, so he still has one more free agency summer to sign a quality free agent

hinrich under-rated
just starting to think about possible al moves. if bulls can’t sign a max player, they might want al if al gets healthy. hinrich can play d at least. tides us over until rubio
by ChicagoViking on Feb 21, 2010 9:04 PM CST up reply actions
What?
You want to trade a great low post scorer who cannot play defense for a good defender who cannot play offense? To “tide us over” for Rubio? At which point he would go back to being a backup or leave for another team? You’d trade Al for nothing? Or keep a player who would have to play SG, but cannot shoot? A 25 year old starting PF/C for a 29 year old PG who you imagine as a short-term option? After a year where we kept two PG and signed one who is 23 years old to a four year contract which has less money left on it than Hinrich makes in two?
I know I sound like an *******, but this logic makes so little sense to me; we need athletic wing players who can shoot or a big man who can play defense. Hinrich is neither.
ok, you win
just most frustrated with pgs and Al tonight. hope flynn improves as a passer/defender. and i dont think Al works for us — he doesn’t play good d. he doesn’t pass well. he has great low-post moves. hope we can get a better trade than hinrich, but we need to do something with him.

Are you guys talking about Oleyksi Pecherov?
Or Nikolai Pekovic?
Because Pech(erov) doesn’t make sense in this context… but Pek(ovic) does.
Really?
If they’re the exact same player, I would think that Kahn would keep the younger, more cost-effective one.
Not to mention
he’d want to trade the one for whom he’d get a bigger return, Big Al.
If Love + a Big Al type isn’t overly effective, it makes more sense to invest fewer resources toward such a pairing. Spending sub MLE money on Pekovic doesn’t leave us so heavily bound to them. We can use both, but we don’t feel like we’re cheating ourselves if Pekovic only plays 20 minutes some games because he doesn’t work well on the floor with Love.
So true.
Salary vs. production is always an issue, but I can’t remember thinking about the issue so much as I am with Pekovic. There are a million scenarios possible with this guy, and it seems like a little movement either way in his contract figure will basically make sort them out for us.
Darko has said he's going to Europe next year
Enjoy him while he lasts, I guess.
Yeah but he's never had a good experience in the NBA
although I don’t think it’s likely if he enjoys life in Sota he could have a Telfair like career here and turn it around here. (except we wouldn’t trade him)

Telfair-like career?
What does that even mean? If you mean “turn his career around like Telfair”, Telfair didn’t do anything differently over his two years here than he did anywhere else.
No weapons charges
Can Agent Zero make that claim over the past couple years?

No
but he was honestly upset when he left… and how many people can say that when they leave MN winters behind for LA?
I jest. As to your question,
I would venture 0 (as a Minnesotan living in LA). But I also know, deep down, that others feel the same way as Bassy.

Would you accept...
…turn his career around like Billups?
actually
he said that he will likely end up in europe next year. I am guessing with the right team and PT he will want to stay.

He just wants to not hate the NBA
I mentioned it in the weekly wrapup, but this is probably the first time he’s played for a team that’s actually going to take the time to develop him. All the other teams he’s been on have had other agenda’s that he didn’t fit into, and I’m not sure if he understands that or why he wasn’t playing because of that.
might lose out to family considerations
if he really wants to go to europe and be wife his wife/kid there, pt may not matter. either way, i hope he shows well. he’s fun to watch. has skills/team-oriented

Posted this above, but Darko's arrival is making us forget how TERRIBLE Gomes played tonite
0-11 from the field, 0 points, 2 assists, 3 rebounds. Looked like he wasn’t even interested in playing. Just awful.
Ya...
People are getting on Al cuz the box score says he has the worst +/-, but watching the game, I thought it was pretty clear that Gomes was by far the worst player out there.
yes
he’s done here. i’m trying to remember what consistent gomes looks like. early this season, maybe. rather have ellington out there now

I would hope so.
The fans loved the hell out of him. Favorite Darko moment: Him driving Durant all the way to half court. I gave him a standing O… at my house.
You were a daydreamer, a sass-mouth, and, not infrequently, a bit of a gigglepuss. Somehow I doubt twenty years of amphetamines and failure have done anything to improve that.

So, what's the take on the broadcast itself?
I haven’t had a chance to read the softballs Kahn and Taylor were fielding in the chat, but…
I enjoyed the hell out of the broadcast. No commercials, Sludge and Lake, that annoying guy shilling the new ticket plan. They put together a lot of good clips, especially the All Star Weekend interviews. I was disappointed that they reused the Rambis interview from the start of the broadcast during halftime.
The best part, though, was Kahn with Tom and J Pete. I can’t say I’ve agreed with all of his moves, but he really won me over when he groaned loudly at a terrible shot Gomes took in the 2nd. His honesty about the things Flynn and Love need to work on was great to hear.
I really hope they do this again.

Kahn knows basketball
I don’t know if that’s always come across to most fans. But ya, the guy is a walking analysis of the game. He had a big hand in crafting that Pacers team in early 2000….he knows what a winning team looks like and needs.
I loved the broadcast. The chat with Taylor didn’t really bother me as much as it seems like it bothered a lot of people, but maybe that’s because I was expecting it to be really simple. I definitely hope they do this again. To go from McHale’s ultra-secrecy (which he did have a good reason for, yes) to this new ultra-connectivity is engaging.
Oh, and in the wake of Darko's Debut
I won’t spoil it by suggesting you go to ESPN to see what Curry’s doing for the Warriors at this very moment.
5 turnovers? 3 assists?
What am I supposed to… oh, 31 points.

Too bad we never had a shot at drafting Curry
Same with Brandon Roy.
Product of the GSW offense.
Played 40 minutes, jacked up nearly 20 shots.
This point does always need to be made
But he still has hit 13 of 18 so far. That’s a really damn good game.
if al is hurt
zgoda says al was a game-time decision with hurt knee. he should sit a few games. he’s hurting the team right now.
Besides the injury
it would be interesting to see how the team plays without him this season. Last year was a disaster of course, but this year could be very different. I love his low-post game, but am also starting to get on the trade Al train, especially if we can trade him for a piece that we need. There’s also a point at which one should cut one’s losses, so even without a potential star in return, as long as there is value and need fulfilled, a trade could be a smart, long-term move for this franchise.
