Mark Blount?
Can someone please exaplain to me why we are still paying Mark Blount a salary? It is very clear to me anyhow, that the man is not going to play this year, at least in a Timberwolves uniform. Is there seriously some reason financially or otherwise that we are still paying him? I just see it as such a waste. Does he have some value that I just do not know about? He wasn't very good the first time we had him on our squad, and I am guessing that if can't give us some help at the 5 with this current squad we have, then he has minimal value. Someone, please help me understand the Mark Blount puzzle. Thanks.

Do you mean paying him a salary as opposed to trading him?
We have to pay him a salary because he is under contract. I think he won’t take a buyout because he is finished in the NBA, so he wants to collect every cent of his contract.
There is a possibility he’ll be traded before the deadline, but, so far it appears that Kahn et al. have made a strategic decision to let his contract expire to free up space under the salary cap rather than including him as part of a trade for, for example, Kevin Martin, in the hopes of luring a free agent over the next few offseasons or allowing a team to trade directly into our cap space after this season.
Does this answer your question?
thanks
so his bloated contract will help give us space this summer. Thanks.

Ya
Blount was never acquired to play here – he was acquired because he’s a large expiring contract, either for us or for helping facilitate a trade later. We pay him, as j_dubs points out, because we’re contractually obligated to do so. The reason he’s not here is because he’s been asked to just stay away from the team. His value to us lies solely in the savings coming off the books next year or in facilitating a trade.
"Come on Eddie, let's get serious."
He wouldn’t take a buyout like Antonio Daniels did, and his agent couldn’t find a team who wanted to sign him, so there’s no benefit to buying out his contract.
